You've probably seen them around and didn't think much about them.  You may have thought the pictures and/or the tin cans looked old and they are supposed to.  You may have been surprised to see that the cans might range in price from $1-10.  And after you read this review you will probably notice them more and know just how wanted they are.  There are websites that advertise the patterns that people are looking for and the funny thing is that I have two of those patterns.

I was introduced to the Bristolware Tin Cans by a friend who had a collection that was out of this world.  She had them displayed on the beams in her log house.  It wasn't the tin cans that I was drawn to but rather the vintage products that were being advertised on them.  So, one day while at Big Lots I came across one.  The Simplicity dress pattern.  It was only $1.99 so I got it.  Then I got me another and another.  Soon I had a pretty good collection and my master bath at my old house was overflowing with them.  The collection became a wonderful conversation piece; especially for my parents and older friends who might remember the actual product ad.

Whenever I bought my new home six years ago I decided not to put the curio cabinet in the master bath so I had to figure out what to do with my Bristolware collection.  I donated the larger ones to my friend and kept a handful of the smaller ones that I knew could still be displayed on the shelf units in my new house.

Not only are the Bristolware Tin Cans a nice addition to your home decor but they are also very practical.  I use mine to store small hair supplies like barettes, hair elastics, and so forth.  I have matches for my air fresheners in another.  I have q-tips and cottonballs in another.

The Bristolware Tin Cans come in a variety of shapes and sizes and the prizes increase with the size.  The Tin Box Company of America out of Farmingdale, New York  also makes the nostalgic lunch boxes.  I have the Wonder Woman one displayed in my large guest room.  I have used the Tins and Lunchboxes as a way to give a gift.  It served a two-fold purpose, as a means to package the gift and then as a reusable container.  I have been able to incorporate my vintage tin cans into my bathroom because I kept the ones that had the ads for bathroom products.

  • Ivory Soap
  • Swifts Clorox
  • Lux Toilet Soap
  • Simplicity dress pattern (compliments my Ooh La La pattern)

I also have some Christmas tins that I bring out when I decorate for winter wonderland.  I just swap out the other tins and bring out the holiday ones.  Most of the holiday tins are shaped like the item (snowman, stocking, tree, etc.).  There is a large collection of Coca Cola tins that I have had my eye on should I ever get any more shelfs for the kitchen.

I like them because they look so antique and old-fashioned!

I have some of these too! A few tins and also some tin pictures that I matted and framed for the bathroom. There's something about the vintage artwork that is so charming and appealing. :)
