I will just admit, I have never gotten into the Simpsons. I know people love it and think it is the greatest show ever. Some how I am just not the right combination of deep and shallow that it has ever stuck with me. That said, I read a New York Times Review of The Simpsons movie and it had very good things to say about the show and the movie so I thought I would try it out.
On a cloudy day in Chicago, why not takes the kids to the movies?
Well I am here to tell you that there were several times during The Simpsons Movie that I regretted having chosen this particular movie to see with the kids. Specifically, when one of the minor character blows his head off with a gun, and when Bart and Homer use a few choice words that I would rather my kids not repeat.
I will admit that my wife and I are pretty picky when it comes to exposing our kids to violence and the full on crassness of pop culture. They don't play violent "shoot em up" video games and they don't watch most of the edgier kids shows. That mean more Be The Creature or Ruff Ruffman than Sponge Bob or Fairly Odd Parents (both of which I think are just plain old obnoxious). So as you can see, we are prudish and perhaps overly protective in this regard. If you don't agree with this, than you will probably think The Simpsons Movie is just fine for your 9 and under kids. If what I said above resonates (which I know is not for everyone) then follow my advice and skip this one.
