I am not really a reader of suspense novels, although I am an avid fan of TV shows such as Alias and 24.  I heard great things about Daniel Silva's new book, so I thought I'd give it a try so I could tell our library patrons about it.

The book was such a wonderful, thrilling surprise.  The main character is an Egyptian CIA-type agent/ art restorer who is called upon in tough cases of suspected terrorism.  We get to know him intimately amid his attempt, along with an engaging team of "specialists," to foil the terrorist plot of the moment.  Amid the fictional characters and scenarios, I feel like I learned a lot about the plight of Jihaadist terrorists and their "mission" as they see it.  Silva obviously has done a lot of research in this area, and this lends real authenticity to the novel.

The novel preceding this one, The Messenger, is also wonderful, and it does come first, although you do not need to read them in order.  I now look forward to other Silva titles for that page-turning thrill that doesn't come around very often.
