The Puppy Baby Book
By Dawn Greenfield Ireland

All dog lovers will love The Puppy Baby Book. This book is not a novel you would read. It is a book where you chart your puppies' growth and progress. It is similar to a baby book that parents fill out on their children. I bought three of these books at Amazon shortly after I adopted my third Jack Russell Terrier puppy, Nicholas. I paid The other two books will be for Rustie and Patches.

The author of The Puppy Baby Book is Dawn Greenfield Ireland. She is an award winning screenwriter and technical writer. She wanted a baby book for her dog, Shasta. This is how The Puppy Baby Book got started. Shasta was a beautiful Bull Terrier and Black Lab mix breed. She (Shasta) died on August 29, 2006 at the age of 17 years.

The Puppy Baby Book is a hardcover book with 72 beautiful bounded pages. There is a page where you can place your puppy's paw prints (use non-toxic ink or paint), a keepsake pocket for the first rabies tag, a pocket to keep the adoption papers, a first aid kit list, a placeholder for an adoption announcement card, and throughout the book are placeholders to put cherish pictures. You can write what you did with your puppy on special days throughout the year from Christian holidays to non-religious holidays and even Jewish holidays. You will find 23 occasions in all.

Below is a list of pages that you will find in The Puppy Baby Book:

Where the puppy was born
*  The first meal
*  When potty training took place
*  Puppy's first friend
*  Birth parents names and breeds
*  Where the puppy was adopted
*  Obedience school classes
*  First big boo-boo
*  Medical records
*  Height and weight chart
*  First birthday photos and notes
*  Place for photos on all major holidays
*
  And much more...

I had so much fun filling out Nicholas' puppy baby book. You wouldn't believe all the pictures I have taken of Nicholas. Of course, I wasn't able to use all of his pictures in the book. The left over pictures I put in a box for safekeeping. I found some cute dog stickers at Hobby Lobby. I placed the dog stickers in the book on just about every page to give it a scrapbook look. I will be starting on Rustie's puppy baby book next. Patches' puppy baby book will be last because it will be very emotional for me to do. He passed away five years ago and was my first puppy.

I paid $17.12 per book about a year ago. Right now, Amazon has The Puppy Baby Book for $14.93. It is eligible for FREE S&H on orders over $25.00. Since the price of this book is under $25.00, you would have to pay S&H. However, you could get the FREE S&H only if you bought more than one book OR bought something to go with it as long as your total order was over $25.00.

I would recommend The Puppy Baby Book to anyone with a puppy. This book can be filled out for rescued dogs, older dogs, and even deceased dogs. It doesn't necessarily have to be a puppy. This book would also make an excellent gift for any dog lover. I give it 5 Stars!

Thorough review!! Excellent review, Krista! :D

I love it! It sounds so cute and a perfect book to mark your pets's life events. I was also thinking that if it can also be used for other kinds of pets.

I don't have a pet anymore but this definitely sounds like a perfect book to get for your pet's "Baby album."

Thanks for sharing your review with us. :D

Your message made me laugh. It was too funny! =D

You probably know by now that I have 2 Jack Russells. They are so hyper! I can't even get them to sit side-by-side so I can take a real good photo of them together. Maybe one day! Thanks for reading and sending me a comment! =) ~Krista Lynn

Thank you! I wish I had such a book when I was growing up. We had a chocolate toy poodle named Shu Shu (like a Shoe). She loved chewing on shoes when she was a puppy. I do remember that about her. It would be nice to look back on her life and have those special memories. Thanks for reading and commenting! =) ~Krista Lynn

You could do a scrapbook on your brother's dogs since you wouldn't have all the history information. When Patches was with us, I did a scrapbook with all the information that would be in a baby book and much more. I've always done some type of scrapbook on my dogs so I could cherish the memories. Patches is always in my heart and very near. I can't remember if I told you, but I had him cremated and his ashes are in a special picture frame with my favorite pic of him in it. Thank you! I thought this was such a cute idea too. My dogs are like my little babies. Why not have a baby book for them. I have always down scrapbooks on my dogs so I could look back on their lives with us. I was thrilled when I found this book. Thanks for reading and commenting! =) ~Krista Lynn

Thank you! I love the idea of having a book like this so you can look back and see how much your puppy has grown. Patches has been gone awhile, but I was smart and did a scrapbook of him when he was a puppy. I have the info to fill out a book on him. Thank you for reading and commenting! =) ~Krista Lynn

Duh, Krista!!!! I did forget to include the price of this book in my review. It is was not expensive at all. I paid $17.12 at Amazon.com for this book a year ago. Amazon's price for the book now is $14.93 plus S&H. Thank you for reminding me about the price. I'm going to update the review in case no one reads this comment. Actually, I might buy one just to have on hand. My friend keeps saying she wants to get a puppy when she gets married, so maybe I'll have one of these just in case!

vivasuzi wrote on Jan 27, 2009 at 11:17AM

That is so cute! Sounds like a great idea for kids as well so when they get their first puppy, they can track it's growth and have a memory of it when they grow up.

AnnaBanana wrote on Jan 27, 2009 at 9:59AM

It might be interesting for your readers to know the price of this article. Was it very expensive?

AnnaBanana wrote on Jan 27, 2009 at 9:58AM

This sounds so sweet. It would also be an important source of information if something happened which necessitated a cherished pet having to be taken care of by someone else if for some reason an owner couldn't give it a home any more.

GigiandAdonai wrote on Jan 26, 2009 at 7:59PM

Krista, this sounds so awesome! I wish I could do some these books for my brother and his wife. They have gone from 14 to 10 dogs. Unfortunately, the youngest 4 are now 2 yrs. old so it would be difficult to track the history. This sounds like a neat gift to give to someone if you know enough about their dog.

I am sure it is goign to be very difficult for you to pen the memories of Patches but he will always be in your heart so why not put his lifestory in a book for others to enjoy too! You can do it!

LaurieM wrote on Jan 26, 2009 at 12:35PM

This is such a cute idea that it almost makes me want to get another puppy! :)

jasyjen wrote on Jan 26, 2009 at 11:03AM

What an awesome idea! I've never heard of such a thing, but think it would make a terrific gift for someone. Love the pictures you've added to your review. They made me SMILE!
