The Princess Bride 1987 Review Summary
The Princess Bride is a "fun comic fantasy" with a great back story. William Goldman, the same writer behind
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and Marathon Man, wrote a novel for his kids with the intention of it someday turning into a film that kids could enjoy as well. Our reviewers say he and director Rob Reiner succeeded with
The Princess Bride becoming a great film not to mention a book, but the jury is out on whether this is a fairytale meant for kids or not. It's filled with funny moments, but much of the "humor is directed at adults," yet reviewers that saw the film as a children are still enjoying it today as an adult. The two actors central to the film are well-known from television and movies, Fred Savage and Peter Falk, adding to its charm.
The Princess Bride is a
"great movie that never gets old."

a movie guru, very picky about Kids films
The Princess Bride Review98 minutes, USA (1987), PG J — Writer William Goldman (Butch Cassidy, Marathon Man, Magic etc) wanted to write a novel for his kids and hoped it would be turned into a movie his kids would enjoy. — It's an enjoyable, swashbuckling satire of a movie that has some memorable sequences and some very funny moments. I'm not sure young children will like it all the much since the leads are very bland and the supporting characters and humor is directed at adults. — A young boy really doesn't care about the story his Grandfather (Peter…

Okay, first off the book and movie are great. I'm 22 so must of my life I can remember watching the movie. I spent my whole life thinking what a wonderful fairytale it was, then, i get the 30th anniversary edition book in there and there's all this crap about how florin city is real and there is a museum you can see there with Morgenstern's works and Fezzik's handprints and all other kinds of nonsense. Goldman even goes as far as to say he is being sued by the Morgenstern estate 13 times and they won't allow him to publish the sequel, "Buttercup's Baby." He even says they…

into Independent Films, a movie buff, a comedy fan, having a sense of humor, Love an original story
This film has an all-star cast. Fred Savage went on to 'Wonder Years;' Peter falk had just done 'Columbo.' Those two actors are central to the film. — The film is funny, touching, Romantic, and filled with action. Like the movie 'Sleepers,' there are many 3rd rate actors, that will remain lower on the list of celebrities, because you can remember exactly what you've seen them in, but not their names. Regardless, cary Elwes is also in it. He does a wonderful job, but I think the real 'hats off' goes to the following three gentlemen trying their hands at acting:…

a fan of clever plots, a fiction reader, character-lover, avid reader, read for fun, into romance novels
This is a book that I read because it was assigned in a college literature class. I read it years before the movie came out. I didn't expect to like it, but I fell in love. The original book is not labeled as written by William Goldman and I thought the whole idea of the secret author situation was cool. I love the book because it was full of surprise and held my interest throughout. I love the whole happy ending good guys wins fairytale and I thought the book seemed to have something for everyone. The whole concept is unique and I believe that makes it…

a fan of clever plots, Every day computer user, married, a woman, an infrequent movie goer, waiting for the DVD, character-lover
When this movie came out I was 12. I saw it twice in the theater, which considering I go to maybe one movie a year, is remarkable. I've watched in many times since. The only thing that seems dated now is the opening with Fred Savage as a little boy and ....Columbo...real name escaping me...as his grandpa. The quotes are memorable, the love story is sweet, the secondary characters are just as noteworthy as the leads. A great family film. — P.S. Read the book too! —…

a DVD collector, movie connoisseur, a documentary film lover, Every day computer user, a believer of fate, a pet owner, not rich, a music lover
If you love Mel Brooks' movies, painful puns, and lots of fun, you will absolutely love this movie. Directed by Rob Reiner (son of Mel Brooks' former comedy partner, Carl Reiner,) this movie is a must for comedy lovers and families alike. No gratuitous sex scenes, foul language or violence makes this movie perfect for family night or date night with someone you know loves to laugh. — One complaint...no sequel!!! —…

This has to be one of the best movies ever. The humor and irony are terrific. The tag lines are universal. I went to a graduation and a valedictorian who went on to Harvard used it as their framework for their speech. Quality…

Like Clever Comedy
This is a classic, most people my age (born in the 80s) grew up watching it. However, everyone I has met who saw it for the first time as an adult, just hasn't got it, which is too bad since it is such a great joke to be in on. —…
