The Pillars of the Earth — 

Ken Follet is one of the best story tellers. His books are intense, thrilling, and the a "can't put it down" kind of author. The first I read was, A Dangerous Fortune and was hooked on getting my hands on everything he's written. I used to hate to read novels for the hell of it. Now, I can't wait for down time to read!
