The Nine is Jeffrey Toobin's new book on the US Supreme Court.  It is a wonderful and interesting read.  Toobin, a staff writer for The New Yorker, is probably best known for his book on the 2000 Presidential Election, Too Close To Call:  The Thirty-Six Day Battle to Decide the 2000 Election.

In this new book, Toobin examines the rightward shift of the current Supreme Court.  The book opens with the death of Chief Justice William Rehnquist in September, 2005.  Moving back to the end of the Warren Court and the eventual election of Ronald Reagan, Toobin recounts the origins of The Federalist...

The Nine, written by journalist/legal analyst/author Jeffrey Toobin, is a riveting look inside the Rehnquist court, culminating in an examination of Bush v. Gore, one of the most controversial Supreme Court decisions in recent history.

The book opens with the conclusion of Rehnquist's reign as Chief Justice, which ended upon his death in September 2005.  The book then flashes back to examine the career paths, ideologies, and personal quirks of each of the nine justices sitting on the Supreme Court at the time of Bush v. Nine helped to renew my interest in The Supreme Court and Constiutional Law. It is a riveting book that kept my attention. Jeffery Toobin is a great writer with a balanced and fair approach to his craft.
