There's not much on TV Tuesday at 8 p.m. here, so I have checked out Fox TV's "Moment of Truth." On some levels I appreciate "truth," but when it comes right down to it, some things really do not need to be told.
Contestants on "Moment of Truth" have been checked with a lie dectector test. From the test, the show producers pick questions to ask that will be touchy. I think touchy may be too kind. These are confessions that could be potentially devastating.
You could not pay me to be on "Moment of Truth," and I'm not a secret keeping type of person. I suppose I tell "little lies." When I say this, I think of one question on the lower money level of "MOT." The host asked a girl if her current boyfriend was the best looking guy she had ever been with. The poor guy thought he was. The honest answer was that he was not. Is there any benefit in that being told? None that I can think of. Looks aren't everything or even much of anything. A guy would look great to me if he was kind and funny and helpful. Being objective and on a lie detector, he might not be the hottest guy I ever went out with as far as physical looks. Does he need to know that? I think not.
I doubt I'd ever get picked to play on Moment of Truth, since I don't fudge on the big stuff. They ask things like, "Have you ever cheated on your guy/\girl?" That is perhaps great TV - for some. Personally I think that is private. If there are serious relationship problems, do not take it to national TV. Do not play Moment of Truth or visit with Montel. Respect your special person enough to talk in private.
I'm not even sure that Moment of Truth is on the level. The contestants have their family members on there, and they do not seem to get all worked up over the confessions. If I went to the show and they asked my boyfriend if he thought he deserved a better looking girlfriend, I suspect I might cry. Call me a wimp. I just wouldn't want to hear that. Maybe it would be better to know, but national TV is not the place to find it out.
Audience members clap as these confessions are put out there. Yay for moving up the pyramid and making more money. Strange. Money is not everything. I would think the players would get silence or even boos with some of these answers. Maybe they have those neon signs up that say to clap and cheer.
At the end of the show they even say things about the impact. One guy lost his girlfriend and his job. Was it worth it? I don't know. I never will. I don't have any big secrets, but I'd never put myself on this show and would never hurt my people even with little things.
