We all see trailers for movies and think "wow that movie is either going to be really great, or really aweful". When I first saw the trailer for THE MIST I thought it was going to be hokey and just plain poorly written. I couldn't have been more wrong.
This film deals with more than just it's immediate subject matter of "something in the mist". It strikes down deep into the bedrock of human failing. How often do we stop to think of the consequences of our actions? How often do we think that, by making this one bad choice, it will effect the course of so many other things?
Beyond that, the movie is filled with thrilling performances. Topping the list is the always fantastic Marcia Gay-Harden as a self-righeous reliegious zealot who believes that the end times have come and that God demands blood for atonement. She truly embodies what true fear does to people.
This film is not scary. It wont make you jump out of your skin. It will not provide you with screams and cheap thrills. It will, however, leave such an impression on you that it will make you think for days. I have not left a movie theater so thoroughly disturbed in years. Definately worth the trip to the theater.
