This book was not worth the time I poured into reading it. It is very slow for the first 1/2 of the book. Intermingled in Catholic bashing and political grandstanding that add nothing to the plot. The story itself is kind of interesting, if slowly told. The characters are not endearing in any way, just there. Jessie Sullivan is a married, mother of one in college, woman who has been molded to her life, but soon becomes bored and needs "something" to change. She finds herself becoming very distant and out of touch with herself and her marriage. Soon an accident draws her away from her mold, and brings her an little island in South Carolina. Her mother has strangely cut off her finger and seeing a way out, or break from her life, Jessie travels to stay with her mother. Jesse's and her mother are estranged. Haven't talked in a long time, and a lot of questions regarding her father's death have circled... read full review »

This book was a poor follow up to her Bee book. I would skip reading this second book and wait to to hear reviews on her third--assuming they will want her to write another one.
