The Long Tail by Chris Anderson in mentally provocative because it revolutionzies general thinking as to how Blockbuster hits (movies, music, books, inventions, etc.) are created.  The big success of any product is no longer its ability to penetrate the masses, but how well it does over the long haul.  Online retail has made niche markets as profitable, if not more so, due to its extended reach, unlimited audiences and its ability to sort, categorize and access information.  To think we got this far in Life without online access to endless products.....consumer likes and dislikes are no longer by-products of what the media dictates.  We are free to ferret out what we like and what we may like simply through Internet availability and queries.

If you think you know retail, tihnk again after readin The Long Tail....in my case, I bought the audio book from Books-a-million and listened to it on long business drives.
