Reader Rabbit Preschool CD-Rom by The Learning Company

The Reader Rabbit Preschool software was a favorite for both of my kids.  The hosts Reader Rabbit and Sam the Lion accompany preschoolers through adventures in Sparksalot.  Reader Rabbit is intended for ages 3-5 years old and I agree with these age guidelines for these games.

Reader Rabbit Preschool CD-Rom addresses a variety of preschool skills through fun games including:

-pre-reading

-counting

-math

-shapes

-colors

-language development

The games on Reader Rabbit have themes and goals that are very attractive to preschoolers like helping baby lightening bugs (of different colors) find their Moms through matching.  This game helps preschoolers practice the computer skills click and drag while reinforcing color matching.

The Reader Rabbit Preschool CD-Rom comes with a bonus disc, Dreamship Tales, that has short videos, like The Oregon Trail, tunes, activities and over 100 printables.

What I really like about Reader Rabbit computer software as a teacher and mom is that the activities increase in difficulty with success.  There are also progress reports parents can view.

My Viewpoint:  I know that when kids quit learning, they will quickly get bored with games.  Both of my children chose Reader Rabbit Preschool often so I know they were enjoying it and learning computer skills while reinforcing preschool skills and concepts at the same time.  After a quick tutuorial, preschoolers can easily use Reader Rabbit Preschool and Dreamship Tales independently.
