The Last Mimsy is a magical study of life, extra-terrestrials, the human species and imagination.

It explores how children are more open to the unexplained and magical than adults, and that may be a good thing--or not, depending on one's own imagination and ability to suspend belief (as children can--which is why so many who see this movie claim it as a favorite!).

****SPOILER ALERT: (Please don't read this section unless you wish to know a plotline.) Some things that aren't immediately understood CAN be eerie until proven harmless, and ultimately, out for the greater good, as the Mimsy are late in the movie.****

The all-to-familiar theme of human supremacy, i.e., believing we are the most intelligent species (certainly the most dominant), comes into play here, as does testing the theory of whether children's beliefs or adult "knowledge" (i.e., science/technology) are more relevant.

In all, The Last Mimsy is a thought-provoking, unique story that adults will enjoy, coupled with "magically delicious," whimsical ideas for children-of-all-ages, who'll easily fill in any gaps using that thing called "imagination."
