The Invisible turned out to be well worth the money I paid to see it. I was extremely iffy about it on the ride there but I'm glad I saw it.

Plot: Nick Powell (Justin Chatwin) is a model student who people don't seem to like very much. When he has a run in with the school bully, things get rough and he is beaten to within inches of his life. The group that beats him up thinks that he's dead and leaves him in the middle of the woods. When Nick wakes up and tries to continue his daily life, he realizes that he's actually out of his living body and no one can see him. He quickly figures out that he is still alive but will die soon if he doesn't get help.

I really thought The Invisible going to be one those movies that looks good in the previews and then cops out in the theaters but it turned out to be pretty good. The acting was good but the story is what drew me in. The first 20 minutes are character development, which is a good thing because this movie absolutely needed it to have the plot work as well as it did. Then once Nick Powell, played by Justin Chatwin, is beaten to within inches of his life, the movie really takes off.

The story starts becoming very surreal and weird once he's out of his body and trying to continue his daily life. The whole "being out of body while being minutes from death somewhere in the woods" is so strange to think about and even moreso to watch but it works. The story progresses along smoothly but, as its progressing, it develops the other characters more. I felt like I really got to know Annie Newton, the girl who masterminded the beating that Nick took. She's played by Margarita Levieva and gives a great performance. After Nick is beaten, the story then co-centers around Nick and Annie, showing how each are coping with what happened. I did get somewhat confused near the middle because it seemed a little far fetched that Nick didn't die even though he was lying in the woods for over 2 days. Also, the fact that he knew pretty much exactly when he would die wasn't explained, I just assumed he had special powers being invisible and all.

The directing and cinematography are pretty well done. The ending of the movie had me a little weirded out and confused but, after it settled in for a bit, I understood what it meant. If you're into paranormal movies then this one is definitely for you. I'm not sure if I'd buy the DVD when it comes out but I'd definitely rent it.
