The Husband Review Summary

The Husband is the latest in a long line of suspense-thriller novels by Dean Koontz. One seemingly ordinary day, professional gardener gets a cell-phone call from a stranger who claims to have kidnapped his wife, Holly. To prove he is serious, the caller directs Mitch the gardener's attention to a man walking a dog. The man is promptly shot dead. The caller then warns Mitch a similar fate will befall his beloved wife if he doesn't come up with 2 million dollars in less than three days. Koontz, true to form, tells a story that is tight, fast-paced and full of knuckle-whitening suspense. As one reviewer noted, "This is a book I didn't want to end and couldn't wait to continue reading.". Koontz isn't everyone's cup of nail-biter however, as one reviewer said, "It was drawn out. And quite boring." Mostly, though, readers found The Husband to be, "An adventure that keeps you completely enraptured searching for the predictability, and finding none" Available in paperback.

To the Point

Dean Koontz's book The Husband was a New York Times Bestseller. I concur that this was well deserved.

A Closer View

The Husband was published in 2006.  Koontz is the author of many, many books including Forever Odd, False Memory and Seize the Night. Sometimes I find his books a bit too strange...

I really can't put my finger on it, but The Husband is the only Dean Koontz books I just couldn't get into.  I tried reading it twice, but never even got much past halfway each time.  All of his other books kept me interested from the very first page, but not this one.

If you are really into his books,...

Like I've said before, I love Dean Koontz books.  The Husband is another pulse-pounding thriller. One morning, Southern California gardener Mitchell Rafferty gets a call on his cellphone from a stranger saying that Mitch's beloved wife, Holly, has been kidnapped and that he has less than three days to come up with $2 million in cash. Of course, he's warned not to involve the police. While Mitch is still on the phone, the kidnapper proves his seriousness by directing Mitch's attention to a man walking a dog across the street. A moment later the man is shot dead. Mitch must walk a fine line-cooperating...

This books is a must for Dean Koontz fans.  Contains all the necessary characteristics:

  1. interesting plot
  2. hero/heroine
  3. unique dilemma

however, there is not a lot of spinetingling excitement as in other Dean Koontz books.

The ending also seems a little short.  It seems very short and there seems to be lot not explained or expanded on in the past.

There could have been much more to the story.  I was a little dissapointed in this novel.  Used to much more from Dean Koontz.

I keep hoping that it is just me, but I do not like MR. Koontz. I started reading him in my twenties and pick up a new book now and then.  I just do not like his style of writing.  My oldest daughter loves him.  I read his books to talk to her about them. We review different books together. I buy his latest through the year and give them to her as X-Mas presents.

Got to admit, the man has a twisted mind.

I have not been a great reader of fiction, focusing my perusals on theories, philosophies, etc.  I happened to pick up a Koontz book at the suggestion of a friend for some light reading on a summer camping trip.  I was hooked almost instantly and could hardly put the book down!  An adventure that keeps you completely enrapt searching for the predictability, and finding none,

I have been a Dean Koontz fan for years, The Husband was great. I love books when the story takes off like a race horse out of the gate, and you never want to lay the book down.  Koontz  did not let me down. His latest books have been good, The Odd Thomas Series, Frankenstein Series .. Good Brain Candy!

I actually began reading The Husband at a stay at a friends house.  When I left I didnt have the heart to take the book from her, so I went straight to the store for my own copy!!  Just in the weekend that i spent there I read almost the entire book, I found myself reading in the car!  This book was unpredictable and exciting!  All in all I loved it!!

This was one of Mr. Koontz better books. The story was very good , It was not predictable . The twists and turns were great and the back story was good . It was slowly reveled . So you wanted to keep reading to find the next turn . It was frightening but not unbelievable . The scary part is these could be your next door neighbors . You will enjoy this book.

I personally did not care for this book. I read something about it and was thinking by the description it was going to be more action...wrong. It was drawn out. And quite boring. It was the first Dean Koontz book I ever read, and I will not pick up another one. It was more of a human self consious thing than a story plot.

Dean Koontz is brilliant at writing about real and believable characters who find themselves in very unusual circumstances. I can always find something of myself in his main characters which pulls me deeply into his stories. How far would you go to save someone you love? This book does not disappoint!

Found The Husband, as with most of his books to be very spell bounding and hard to put down.  Only took less than 2 days to read this one, so hard to put down.  Would recommend this book to anyone and very worth the money.  Left you on the edge of your seat wondering what would happen next.

This book was very refreshing.  Koontz proves that even without a supernatural plot he can weave a great story.  He had me from the first page and didn't let go until the last.  I loved the characters, yes even the bad ones.  The end was not predictable, and was very satisfying.
