The Holiday Review Summary

While Kate Winslet was the original draw for many reviewers to initially see The Holiday, they soon found a "quintessential light romantic comedy" that left them "feeling a nice warm glow." Also starring Jude Law, Cameron Diaz, and Jack Black, The Holiday is about two unlucky in love women who trade homes in different countries for the holidays. Most moviegoers feel the stars made great couples and were appropriate in their roles. It was a split decision for Black, who some feel was cast brilliantly against type, but others feel was awkward in the role, used to seeing him in roles such as Be Kind Rewind. For many reviewers, The Holiday is "everything a chick flick needs to be."

During last year's holiday season I remember seeing previews for The Holiday starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet.  Although it looked like a major chick flick, it looked cute to me so I made a mental note to add it to my Netflix list.

Well now that this holiday season has rolled around I decided to...

I saw The Holiday was going to be on tonight and decided to watch it since my husband was out and I was enjoying a relaxing evening of organizing and movies.  I half expected it to be cheesy, and I half expected it to be a comedy like Last Holiday.  However it turned out to be very different than those expectations.

Kate Winslet plays a British woman who lives in a secluded little cottage in England.  When her story begins, we find out she is very sad all the time since she isn't over her ex-boyfriend.  Her sadness comes to a peak when she finds out he is engaged.  Cameron Diaz plays a woman...

About a year ago I saw the Holiday staring Cameren Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, and Jack Black.  I really enjoyed it and it is on my top 20 favorite movie list.

The Holiday is a romantic comedy staring Jack Black, Cameren Diaz, Jude Law, and Kate Winslet. I thought it would be one of those sort of sappy, mindless, romantic movies that I like so much, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it had a little more depth than the average romantic comedy.

This movie is about two women, Amanda, and Iris. Amanda is owns a very successful movie trailer creation company, and Iris is a writer for a...

Looking for a light romantic comedy, my wife and I settled on The Holiday, which stars Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Jack Black. After seeing it, I have to say that this movie hit the spot quite nicely -- it was the quintessential light romantic comedy that left us feeling a nice warm glow.

Here's the setup:

Cameron Diaz is Amanda Woods, a stressed-out Hollywood film editor who specializes in cutting trailers for feature films. She has loads of man trouble, as guy after guy cheats on her. She punches the latest one in the nose as she throws him out, then storms inside and tries to figure...

I decided to spend the day in with such cold temperature out! After some morning chores, I sat down with a warm cup of Peppermint Mocha to find The Holiday on Encore Love. I'd seen it before, but it'd been almost a year and I was so excited to see it on!

Synopsis: The Holiday, by Screenwriter and Director Nancy Meyers (Something's Gotta Give and What Women Want), is set at Christmas time and follows two ladies, Amanda Woods, played by the funny Cameron Diaz, a movie trailer editor from Los Angeles and Iris Simpkins, played by Kate Winslet, a newspaper writer from England, decide to spice...

This is a really cute movie. You don't have to really think at all during it, which makes it a nice movie to relax to. It is funny and very cute and the setting is christmas.. what's not to love.I originaly saw this movie because i think Kate Winslet is an amazing actress. Jude Law is so cute in this movie, with the little girls!! And Jack Black is always funny. Cameron Diaz surprised me in this movie and i actually really liked her character.

2 women having guy trouble trade homes for the holidays and both end up meeting a local guy and falling in love.

Good movies are those that I can watch over and over again and never get tired. The Holiday one is one of them. It will never be a classic, but it is enjoyable to watch - simple and direct.

The weaving of the two women's story lines was well done.
I never knew Jude Law could be so funny. I knew he had children, but they have a nanny. Who knew he could be so down-to-earth with kids.
The girls were fantastic and real.
I'm not a fan of either woman, but I enjoyed watching them in this movie. Cameron Diaz did a really good job, and we didn't have to hear her sing.

As chick flicks go, this one is...

Thought the plot lines are veiw well thought out. Enjoyed every minute of this movie. I love Jack Black and his part in this movie is amazing. The characters are well acted. The story is sweet , intriguing and funny. I enjoy watching people learn to grow in their depth. It shows how we could take a look at our lives and maybe we are not really on the right track either. So look at what needs to change and then just get out there and do it.

The Holiday is a great movie. Funny, romantic and well worth your time watching. It is one that I will add to my extensive DVD collection. The actors are very believable and do a great job of acting. I am not at all a Jack Black fan and if there is any one thing that doesn't mesh well with the film, it would be his acting performance, but he does a mediocre job in this film.

I don't usually go for chick movies, more into the Action, Horror and Drama stuff...but this one surprised me.  I thought that casting Jack Black as a funny & caring guy was a great move and Cameron Diaz surprised me with her performance.  Jude Law didn't let me down and was excellent as the Dad.  I can't believe it, but I really enjoyed this movie.

If you are looking for a truly feel good movie for the holidays, this is it. Disclaimer -- this movie is a complete chick-flick, sappy, unrealistic, over the top romantic comedy, so if you are opposed to that particular genre, then just move on now and save yourself the trouble. If, however, you like even the occasional foray into the complete fantasy world of strangers meeting and quickly realizing they are perfect soulmates who have been so unhappy previously because they just hadn't found the right one yet, you will enjoy this. I

Unlike so many holiday movies -- even comedies -- that feel the...

I waited for this movie to hit DVD before watching it. I didn't think it looked very good, but I'm not a huge fan of Cameron Diaz.  I do, however, love Jack Black. I'm really glad I rented this one. It was an odd story line at first, but I really got into. I could only imagine how each girl felt living outside of their comfort zones. Then love found them. The only thing I did not like about the movie was Jack Black's character.  I just don't think he fit the part. Other than that it was a great movie.

The Holiday was truly a surprise.  I was not planning on seeing this but a friend convinced me and I am so glad.  It was funny, sweet, and a bit of a tear jerker.  All 4 main characters were wonderful.  Never thought of Jack Black as a romantic character but he was wonderful.  Jude Law, well nothing else needs to be said.  I am not a fan of Cameron Diaz but she did what she does best - a ditzy blond.  Kate Winslet was the best.

Rent this movie.
