Bottom-Line: All and all The History Channel has found new life and purpose.  The cable channel now has a wide variety or programming to appeal to historian and contemporary learns alike.

So-called reality-based television may have taken off on network television, but it took cable to bring us the real...

If the TV is on chances are better than 50/50 that it's on the History Channel.  I love shows like Dog Fight, anything to do with WW2 or the Civil War, and am really looking forward to this Battle 360.  But it's getting harder and harder to actually find shows that have anything to do with history. ... read full review »

The History Channel needs to be watched by all school children.  It not only entertains but it also teaches everyone.  It is also so refreshing to be able to watch historical and informational programs  instead of trying to channel surf to find something good when there are so many reruns on television.  I absolutely love The History Channel and hope that it never goes away.

When I was in school; I found history classes to be dull, unengaging and provoked no thought at all due to the subject presentation.  Therefore, I studied for tests and memorized all of the dates, names and places;  so I could pass the course and move on to classes far more interesting.  The items I remembered after those classes were minimized to statements such as, "You know, that battle at Waterloo with what's his name....". Really classy, huh?

As an adult, I just naturally kept the notion that I hated history in general as a subject and was glad I wasn't in school anymore.  But one night...

So, who watches the history channel? Everyone, right? and they have the history channel in order to teach the nation about the past mistakes and evolutions and wars and blah blah blah... so we don't make the same mistakes again, right? well, i personally believe... nay, can prove... that at least ten percent of what is on those shows is just pulled out of someone's butt! honestly!!! Like how Napoleon was gay. Now, how the HELL can they possibly prove that Napoleon was gay when they say that the only writing that they have of him is official; either from him to royalty, his wife to him, etc.... read full review »

The History Channel is outstanding -- most of the time.

Slowly the History Channel is moving through my ideal balance of old history and newer ideas, and through the balance of documentaries of events vs. others' thoughts on those events.

What I mean is: The History Channel use to be stodgy. (In my dorm in 1995, the "H" in the corner of the screen, we joked, stood for "The Hitler Channel" because it seemed like every time we turned it on there was a grainy Hitler documentary on).

Then it started adding more programming, some pop-shows ("History's Mysteries," which sought out historical artifacts...

THE HISTORY CHANNEL HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY. EVEN IF YOU WERE NEVER INTO HISTORY, THE SUBJECT MATTER AND QUALITY OF THE SHOWS SHOWN ON THIS NETWORK WILL GRAB YOUR ATTENTION. WITH THE BOMBARDMENT OF REALITY TV AND SHOWS JUST FILLED WITH PURE SILLINESS, THE HISTORY CHANNEL IS A REFRESHING ALTERNATIVE. THERE ARE OTHER GOOD SHOWS OUT THERE, BUT WHEN YOU'RE STUCK AND CAN'T FIND ANYTHING TO WATCH SEE WHAT'S ON THE HISTORY CHANNEL, YOU MIGHT BE SUPRISED.

IF YOU WANT TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW, CHECK THEM OUT. YOUR TELEVISION DOES NOT ALWAY HAVE TO BE AN IDIOT BOX.

I really like the History channel. There is so much you can learn from watching. My family also watches it and that includes some of my granchildren. My husband really likes it when they have documentary's on there about the wars. I like watching the history of our war ships.  The Edmen Fitgerald is my favorite show they  had on there.

The History channel always has something new on to watch. There is so much to learn.A perfect place to do it.
