When I was in high school I was a huge Motley Crue fan.  This scared the crap out of my parents who did not understand what interest I could possibly have in dudes with weird makeup and hair.  And they absolutely freaked when they'd hear the all too familiar strains of Shout at the Devil thumping from behind my bedroom door.  That actually was half the fun of being a Crue fan - freaking out of the parental units.

In all honesty, I was a very good kid and they had little to worry about.  What I did not know about the Crue though is the terrible mess the band members had gotten themselves into...

WOW!

When I picked this book up at the library, I was in no way ready for what I was about to read.  Nikki Sixx is open, honest and very candid in this book.  Most entries are from his journal that he kept at the darkest time of his life.   While reading you can tell, when he doesn't tell you, if he's high or sober.

This is really an amazing book, and quite different from other celebrity autobiographies that I've read.  Anyone who knows the Hair Bands of the '80s knows Nikki Sixx as a member of Motley Crue, and knows the band's reputation for living the wild life.  It's all true, and there are many partying stories included here, but Nikki focuses on his increasing heroin, cocaine and alcohol addiction during the band's heyday. He is brutally honest, but does not preach. He lets his story teach you it's own lesson.  His childhood was harsh, and he felt abandoned by both his parents and was mostly raised...

This book was so great!  It was the kind of book that I couldn't read fast enough.  I've always been a big Motley Crue fan, so reading a book written by Nikki Sixx was so exciting to me.  He is brutally honest about his drug use, and doesn't attempt to hide anything.  And he as soon AMAZING stories.  Also there is some behind the scenes information about Motley Crue that I found fascinating.  This is the kind of book I will keep forever and read many, many times.

I used to love Amazon Reader's picks because I found a lot of books to read that I wouldn't have found or read because they were not from my usual genre of books to read.

This book is one such book, that I discovered after reading reviews here.

What a great book. I read it in one afternoon. The honesty, the brutal truth, it was all there. I was also impressed with Nikki's voice. He was open and honest with his flaws, he did not make any excuses for his life and he is reaching out to help others.

When I compare this book to "A Million Little Pieces" only the subject of addiction is the same. Of course...

The Heroin Diaries

This was a great book I thought. It really depends on how you look at it. I wouldn't recommend it to everyone as it might give some drug users ideas and others inspiration to quit so I'm not sure what the best thing to say here is, but I really enjoyed it and think for the right person it could truly be an inspiration and change their lives.

This bio is amazing! Nikki Sixx recounts his life in Motley Crew in a graphic and  straightforward way. His stories tell the ugly truth of addiction. He doesn't sugar coat it and he helps you derive some life lessons of your own through his accounts.  I started this book in the morning after the kids went to school and found myself still reading it when they came home. A serious page turner.....I couldn't go to bed untill I finished it!

As an added bonus the proceeds from the sale of this book go to a foundation for runaway kids!!

This book takes us through one of the darkest years of rocker Nikki Sixx's life. It's a diary that begins with him being home alone and stoned on heroin during Christmas time. It shows us the way through his drug use and wild crazy days that he spent on tour with his band Motley Crue.  It also shows us how he ended up in the situation he got himself into.
