Favorable Review
Another wonderful directorial effort by Robert De Niro. Rather loosely based on the story of James Jesus Angleton, the founder of the CIA's counterintelligence service, the film covers the history of the CIA and highlights the backgrounds of its early operatives and leaders (uber-blue blood for…

love movies that make me think, character-lover, love epic movies, a fan of clever plots
Matt Damon shines in this intelligent film of shady characters, CIA operatives, fraternity rituals, and ambiguous motives. Based on the founding of the CIA's counterintelligence service, Damon portrays the title character, Edward Wilson, as a slow-speaking, low-key and complex introvert. On the surface, one would expect that this movie is an action-packed thriller. Well, it is and it isn't. The Good Shepherd doesn't rely on the Hollywood conventions of interminable car chases, multiple explosions, and machine-gun killings. The action here is completely cerebral. …

character-lover, into movies that tell a great story
The basic problem with the film "The Good Shepherd" is not the film itself but its advertisements. Trailers imply that the film is another in the car-chasing genre. Think Matt Damon is the Bourne film series. How can there be any suspense in those films when you know the outcome, that is, Bourne must live so that there can be a sequel. Most viewers see this film for the fun of it, to participate in the crashes and chases that would in the real world kill you instantly. The Good Shepherd is more along the lines of the classic "Day of…

character-lover
The trailer for this movie had me chomping at the bit. It promised to be an exiciting, high energy spy movie. I felt extemely let down when I watched the movie. It was so slow and boring that I felt like I was getting lost (probably from falling asleep!) and I never get lost in a storyline. The characters were not interesting, I had no sympathy, or connection with any of them. When the movie was over I thought, is that it!???
This movie is a two thumbs…

DVD collector, Movie guru, Sci-Fi fan, movie buff, horror fan, a fan of clever plots
Truly this 'action film' seems dull at times but it is building a fairly detailed base for future development. I loved the twists and turns and the fact that secret service agencies operate on intuition as well as facts. — I loved the way the characters developed and how an obscure situation may have an unfortunate outcome. — Brilliant and believable. —…

very picky about Kids films
so i rented this movie because i had been looking forward to it and i absolutely hated it. It was boring, slow and hard to follow sometimes. POOR POOR MOVIE-the cast of characters was amazing but it seems they can add this movie to their FLOP list. I mean who wrote this movie-it was about the CIA couldnt it have been a little more exciting.…

Movie guru, a fan of clever plots
what a waste of time and talent. — How could a movie be this bad with so much going for it? — I was really looking forward to this movie, especially after seeing Cambridge Spies, which gives an alternative view of the man. — Go watch that instead. — This movie is boring, boring, boring — …

character-lover, into movies that tell a great story
So I rented this movie on DVD and I thought it was the worst movie I had ever seen! The movie was really slow going and I'm not even sure what it was about. Matt Damon was just irritating in this movie. I don't typically rent movies that often so I get upset when I feel like it was a complete waste of…
