The Golden Compass —
I went to see this with my husband after seeing the trailers. We weren't disappointed! I haven't read the books yet (though I'm intending to after seeing this film), but the plot made sense and was enjoyable. I though Nicole Kidman did an excellent portrayal. The special effects were great.Neither of us saw any of the "anti-Christian" themes that were supposed to be so prevalent throughout the story (and we were looking for them after all the hype) so I'm a little confused about all the boycotting. If we as adults didn't see them, then I'm not too worried about my children picking them up.
It was a good fantasy story. I wouldn't take a younger child to see it, as there is violence and some parts could be frightening to a young child. But I would definitely take an older child and would recommend it to other adults who enjoy a good fantasy movie. It did seem to end too soon, but it's the first installment of a trilogy. I'm looking forward to the next segment.
