The Girlfriend Experience opened in theaters, on demand, cable and on DVD at the same time. It is the second of six anticipated short independent films by Stephen Soderberg. It is the story of a NYC escort who provides her clients with a "Girlfriend" experience. For those who are not familiar with the term, it is used by escorts who provide their johns with a date like experience, including dinner, movies, shopping, kissing, talking and, oh yeah, sex.

Critics loved this movie. I did not. What I did enjoy was the shots of my former hometown New York City. I was able to "visit" neighborhoods that usually do not end up in movies. It was fun to see the inside of trendy, expensive restaurants, and the apartment that the main character lives in is fantastic.

The woman who pays the call girl is an actual adult film "actress." The critics seemd suprised that she could act. I found this comment to be shocking, first of all she was horrible, and second how was this role (playing a woman who gets paid to have sex) any different from her original acting genre???

At any rate, it was only 77 min long, it provides interesting insight into a lifestyle that most people only see in movies. If you have nothing else to do and enjoy Soderberg then it may be worth your time. For the rest of us, this is one you can skip.

With critics I often wonder if they are seeing a different movie than I am. I actually think that they are watching for something more than simple entertainment. That is my only criteria, if I look at my watch, or if when the movie is over I want the time back then its not good.

I read a lot of good reviews by critics and a lot of bad one by viewers about this.
