To the Point

Once again my mom and I decided to go to the movies. I like to take her to comedies and to movies that aren't too complicated. We chose The Game Plan and I am so glad we did!

A Closer View

Ok so I never heard of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who plays an egotistical, rich and famous quarterback for a Boston football team. The fact that he's so good looking is not something he has to play! I didn't know this hunk but it seems that he's been in other movies and was a professional wrestler which explains the body.

I've read a few reviews. One I read said that only those who don't like real comedy would like this movie. Perhaps that's true but I found it funny - as in laugh out loud funny. When there weren't tears in my eyes, there was a smile on my face as was true of my mom as well.

I was a bit apprehensive when we first sat down in a room full of children. It's a Walt Disney movie rated PG for mature themes. I really don't think young children will understand the premise of the movie - not that it's complicated - it's actually quite simple - but I just don't see taking a five-year old to see this movie though he or she will find some scenes funny even if they're over his head. There is nothing about the movie in my view that makes it inappropriate for children. There are some references to sex and there is some partying but as I said it will go over their heads.

Joe Kingman is the "it's all about me" football player who is enjoying being just that when the doorbell rings and the cutest little girl I've seen, named Peyton Kelley played by Madison Pettis is standing there with a suitcase. Peyton is the kind of actress that has me wondering how a 9-year old can learn to act and then I tell myself she was born to act. She plays an 8-year old, Kingman's daughter, whom he never met and never knew he had.

No spoilers here: This movie is predictable however there is a twist that makes it even more touching than you will think it is.

Also in the movie are Kyra Sedgwich and Roselyn Sanchez whom you may know from her role as Elena Delgado on Without a Trace.

If you are a film connoiseur i.e. someone who prefers sophisticated or indie-type movies this one is clearly not for you.

Thanks for the input. May or may not watch it when it comes on demand.

We call those movies, "Leave your brain at the door" movies! They are simply made to sit back and laugh - not analyze!

This looks cute, but I figured I'd wait for it to come out on DVD. My siblings, 5 and 7, have no interest in seeing it, so I think you're right on your guess that really young kids might not get into it. The only reason they even mentioned it to me was that the little girl, Madison Pettis, has a role in the Disney show 'Cory in the House.' Apparently she's already got a little practice when it comes to acting!
