The Forbidden Kingdom Review Summary

"Jackie Chan and Jet Li together as exciting as it sounds." While Forbidden Kingdom may not have the writing behind it that Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon does, reviewers just couldn't overlook the entertainment provided by two martial arts legends, such as Chan and Li. Even though they aren't as young as they used to be, they are still amazing to watch, with some comparing watching them in Forbidden Kingdom to watching a ballerina or ballroom dancer. Michael Angarano plays a young man that "joins forces" with Chan and Li to "free their imprisoned king." Not as intense as as Li's other movies, and not "as funny as some of Jackie Chan's" films, Forbidden Kingdom was a "good blend of the two," making it a "fun, family-friendly film with a message of hope."

I found The Forbidden Kingdom to be very exciting, but I should preface this by saying I'm a martial artist, with a 1st dan black belt in the Korean martial art of tae kwon do, and currently studying the Chinese martial arts of kung fu and tai chi, so my excitement was on that level. Bottom-Line: Thought not as smartly written or beautifully conceived as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, The Forbidden Kingdom is nonetheless an entertaining look into yet another Chinese legend. I love Jackie Chan, and since Fearless, Jet Li.  I was never into the 70s kung fu movies, but when you get true artists like Jackie and Jet who are not spring chickens but don't give a clue when you watch them perform those stunts and some of those moves, it's on the level with a ballerina or ballroom dancer.  It's like watching art and I loved that part of it.  I have alot of respect for people that can do things I can't (things that are legal and moral, ethical, etc) and that's what this is.  On top of it the storyline was interesting and I loved Jackie's "dual"… read full review »

I'm not saying that this movie won't have fans from all age groups, but it will definitely strike more of a chord with a younger audience than it did with me. My husband was interested in checking out the afternoon matinee of Forbidden Kingdom starring Jackie Chan and Jet Li.   I'm not generally a huge fan of martial arts movies, but I did thoroughly enjoy the magnificence of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and the intrigue of Hero, so I thought I would give the film a chance.  Boy, was that a mistake. — Although there are some similarities between all three… read full review »

It was movie week and the gang decided on this movie because it looked pretty good. In the beginning we all began to look at one-another as if we made a mistake but once the movie got started we all relaxed(lol). — The Plot (In short....because it is...lol): — For the first time ever Jet Li and Jackie Chan team up in this movie about a kid who sets out on a quest to return a fighting stick to it's rightful owner. Once Jason ( played by Michael Angarano) is transported to a land before his time he joins forces with fierce warriors who have sworn to free their imprisoned king at… read full review »

I actually thought it was going to be more like Hero or Crouching Tiger, so we left the younger child (7) behind with friends, and took my older 15 yr old who's into martial arts and weapon training, along with her friend who's into anime.  Both girls were excited about seeing it, and when they saw it, they loved the whole movie.  — I liked it alot, cuz it wasn't like Crouching Tiger, and thought Hero was too "artsy" for me.  Although I'm a creative type and can appreciate great cinematography, I'm not fond of every  martial art movie, specifically when its too… read full review »

Forbidden Kingdom was fun to watch.  It wasn't as intense as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and some of Jet LI's other movies, nor was it as funny as some of Jackie Chan's, but it was a good blend of the two, which makes sense as they were both in it.  I felt that the character development was done more one dimensionally on purpose, to allow for the boy to be the most fully formed character in the story.  The other characters were essentially mythical or imaginary characters so were never fully formed outside of the boys head.  This didn't trouble any of us.  My… read full review »

This movie is worth it just for the fight between Jackie Chan and Jet Li alone. They're both good guys, so we only get the one, but there are plenty more scenes with them beating up other people. The story line is kind of weak, focusing as it does on a white kid that is suddenly transported to a fantastically medeival China. However, as annoying as the kid is, Jet and Jackie gleefully take turns stealing the movie back from him at every turn.… read full review »

Just seeing these two legends on screen together made the whole experience worthwhile. Add to the mix a decent, action filled story and you have a powerhouse of a movie that is definately worth the price of admission. — — This is a movie that will be fun to have and own on DVD, but MUST be seen on the big screen to truly get a feeling of the action and awe. —… read full review »

For me these kind of movies I dont like them because it is way too violent for me. I feel that there is enough violence in the real world. Our children need to be protected from violence as much as possible. This old world is getting worse everyday. There is always kids in my neighborhood fighting and for what? Just so that they can hurt another… read full review »

The Forbidden Kingdom was a good movie, not the best I've ever seen, but it was worth seeing. It has the Kung Fu that people like to see from those old movies, except it was made better with Jackie Chan and Jet Li, who are two great actors. There was laugh-out-loud comedy and pretty good drama. — I'm not sure the real signifigance of the Monkey King, but I felt the plot could have been better if they used something else besides an immortal man who looked and acted like a monkey. — Other than that, it was a pretty good movie and I would recommend seeing it. —… read full review »

I had heard some good reviews about this movie.  However, I have to differ.  Jackie Chan was not that funny, maybe he wasn't given enough opportunities, he was nearly dead or drunk for most of the movie.  He was supposed to be some kind of prophet who had to survive by drinking!  What kind of message does that send to kids.  Way too much fighting and I wasn't expecting witchcraft to be involved.  Overall, it was a terrible movie that I would not recommend to… read full review »

I enjoyed the Forbidden Kingdom. Jackie Chan is a very diverse person and I enjoy his sense of humor along with his commitment to martial arts. This movie was done along the lines of the older martial arts and I appreciated this greatly. The plot was good and the ending I enjoyed as gave you a warm feeling of things that could be. Jet Li was awesome with his fight scene with Jackie Chan and I enjoyed the techniques of both these outstanding martial… read full review »

Definately a must for Jet Li and Jackie Chan fans. It is not Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, but if you like this genre you will love it. The fight scenes were great and I enjoyed the movie very much!
