The First Years Soothie Pacifier Review Summary

Overwhelmingly the parents state “the Soothie Pacifier is the only pacifier I will ever use.” Even pediatric nurses state “I've never met a baby who did not like the Soothie Pacifier.” Designed as one piece of silicone, the First Years Soothie pacifier is easy to clean and a durable baby pacifier. With a natural shape, the Soothie Pacifier does not interfere with breast feeding and does not cause any nipple confusion. Although the Soothie Pacifier is available in three sizes, the two larger Soothies are a lot stiffer and thicker making them more difficult to suck on. Soothie Pacifiers may not be as cute as other baby pacifiers but babies seem to like them. Just be careful if they drop as they will bounce which makes them easy to loose.     As a healthcare provider for new mother's and infants, and a breastfeeding advocate, I am natually inclined to not support the use pf pacifiers.  Some infants however, have an overwhelming need to suck, and this can be quite uncomfortable for new mom learning to breastfeed.  This is how the...

My daughter is a paci addict.  The green soothies are the ONLY ones she will take.  I guess as far as a paci goes, it's whatever shape the child prefers.  Mine, just happens to loves these.  Did I mention she is 3 now???? I'm ashamed to say that I have not gotten rid of it yet.  She screams with... read full review »

That's funny when I see the other reviews because mine is the same! She will only take this binky and will only take the green one. I tried the blue, pink, NUK, Avent...she will take them only to chew on them backwards--the handles in her mouth. To sleep however, she will only use the green Soothie. One thing I don't like that gives it 4 stars is the hole on the backside (where the nipple "attaches") is the same size as her finger and she frequently sticks her finger in there and gets it stuck-which of course triggers a hearty whine..

She likes to chew on this binky sideways, backwards, any...

I didn't want to give my baby a pacifier AT ALL. I was paranoid that since I was breastfeeding, that any pacifier was going to ruin things... but we were at the hospital for a test and the baby was fussing a bit and the nurse asked if we had a pacifier and I said no. She reached into the cupboard and pulled out one of these, saying they were highly recommended. We took it from her, thanked her, and threw it in the diaper bag. (We didn't try it right then because, as I mentioned, I did NOT want my baby to use a pacifier.)

And then came a time when he was really fussy. And we had just watched The...

I never thought after using Playtex disposable I would go back to a reusable bottle. I bought the soothies to send to my sister as a gift and decided to get a set for myself to try. I also had my trusted Playtex and a box of drop ins. My baby came and she had far to much trouble with the Playtex I tried her on the Soothie. I am thrilled with the out come. The nipple design is so simple you would not think it to prevent the baby from swallowing air. But it works. She does not spit up and hardly has to burp. My mind has definitely been changed and if you are in the market for a good reusable bottle...

Prior to my son's birth, I had this mindset against pacifiers and if my child ever got attached, I would just take it away anyway...

Well, I have my son now and he's 15 months, still attached to his precious binky. I can't take it away because he relies on it so much and when he discovers that it has disappeared, he'll bring down the house with his outrage. I'm still a bit against it, but it brings comfort to my little boy.

I got this pacifier for free like most people, from the hospital when my fourth child was born.  With my other three kids, I used the Gerber Nuk brands.  My youngest wouldn't take the Gerber Nuk pacifier so I stuck with the Soothie one.  I have read that it is supposed to be better for breastfeeding, but I can't say for sure.  I can say that I have had a easier time nursing with this child than I did with the other three, but it may not have just been the pacifier.

All in all, if I was going to have a fifth child, I would use this kind over the Gerber Nuk variety.

Pros:

My baby can put...

My daughter was a preemie and didn't take well to a whole lot of anything at first, but did well with these.  She didn't have a good suck reflex and these really helped, especially since we were trying to breastfeed.  This is what the doctor and the hospital gave us when she was first born and she would not take another kind of pacifier the entire time she used them.  They make a soothie pacifier for biters that are stronger and have sides that are ideal for biting and we got one of those for my daughter too.  She really liked that she could suck on the pacifier then chew on the side and we...

I work in the newborn intensive care unit as a nurse, and Soothie Pacifiers are the pacifiers we use in the hospital. I've always thought they were ugly, and never planned on using them with my own babies- until lactation recommended it because of the straight nipple shape which is more like a breast for nursing babies and helps avoid nipple confusion, according to the lactation consultant at the hospital. So I ended up buying these as well as the cute Gerber ones- and guess which ones my baby prefers? Yep, my son won't take the cute Gerber pacifiers, he spits them across the room, but he will...

Soothie was my son's pick of the pacifer. Altho there is one other I can get him to suck on he prefers his soothie. His first soothie was the premie soothie which is purple and you can only get at the hospital. The newborn and sixth month plus you can get at the store. I have found that they are cheeper then other pacifiers. So if you are looking to safe money with a future baby. I would pick this pacifer I will probably use it with the rest of my children. The do have a soothie pacifier clip that you can buy at target or walmart for it. I bought one and it works great and looks cute. The only...

My first child was hooked on this pacifier, so I didn't think twice about getting this brand of pacifier again for my second child. I also got the Soothie brand bottles, which she loves too.

Pros:

Buy these online from the website printed right on the pacifier - or buy them at the store - ie: Babies R Us or Target and skip the shipping.

Website offers the "Wubbanub" which is a Soothie pacifier attached to a small stuffed animal. This makes it easier for baby to find her Soothie on her own. Also gives her something to hold onto while she's sucking.

Comes in different stages, good for newborns, 3+...

I have to say that the Soothie pacifier is the only pacifier I will ever use. To begin with I had chosen a different pacifier for my baby to use, but when we tried it at the hospital the nipple was just too long for her tiny mouth and she gagged on it. Luckily the hospital provided a Soothie pacifier for us, and our daughter took it instantly! We quickly went to the hospital gift shop and bought about ten more of them (in case we lost a few!). These are the only pacifier that my daughter will take, and we even went out and bought two of the Soothie bottles. (We also use some bottle that take liners,but...

We were not given any type of pacifier from the hospital, so I had a pile of various ones to choose from. My daugther didn't seem to be very picky, until we got a green Soothie in the package with a Soothie bottle. My daughter has not used another binky since!! We've tried the pink ones, blue ones and green ones. She dislikes them all but the green, and likes to carry one in each hand plus the one in her mouth!! We've been so desperate at times to find them after she's thrown them (because they bounce!) that we've had to make a walmart or target run in the middle of the night (yes, we were that... read full review »

The hospital gave our son to use the pacy while he was in NICU to keep him calm and relaxed.  It worked.  The soft plastic makes it easy of the baby to hold it.  We tried other pacies and he wouldn't take them or tried biting on the hard plastic handle.  Some others were too big and he would gag on it.   Easy to wash; just drop in some warm soap and water.  This pacy is a must for nursing moms because it doesn't cause nipple confusion.  This is always a great plus.  They cost a little bit more them others but they really last.  They have only one part so there is no chance of the... read full review »

With my second child, the hospital doled out a freebie pacifier which I thought I wouldn't need.  My first child had no interest in a pacifier.  I was glad that I kept it.  When I went back to work, the sitter couldn't get the baby to settle down and the only thing that would calm him was the Soothie Pacifier that they gave out!  Luckily they have a website where more may be purchased -- http://www.soothie-pacifier.com/.  They also sell something called a Wubbanub, a stuffed animal that attaches to the pacifier.  The baby holds the stuffed animal and in doing so keeps the pacifier in his... read full review »
