I got this pacifier for free like most people, from the hospital when my fourth child was born. With my other three kids, I used the Gerber Nuk brands. My youngest wouldn't take the Gerber Nuk pacifier so I stuck with the Soothie one. I have read that it is supposed to be better for breastfeeding, but I can't say for sure. I can say that I have had a easier time nursing with this child than I did with the other three, but it may not have just been the pacifier.
All in all, if I was going to have a fifth child, I would use this kind over the Gerber Nuk variety.
Pros:
My baby can put it in her mouth easily by herself
Unlike the Gerber Nuk for example, the entire pacifier is the same material so even if she puts the wrong side in, she doesn't hurt her mouth.
The bottles that Soothie makes are almost the same as the pacifier so the transition is easy. (I have had issues before with the child taking a bottle b/c the nipple was so different).
Cons:
Contrary to what some say, there are clips made for these pacifiers. I have found them online at Amazon.com and locally at Target. There are not tons of them, but they do have them and they are not that much difference in price from other brands.
They bounce. It may sound silly but when they hit the ground, they bounce like a rubber ball. I am like most moms and have lots of extra pacifiers around, so I eventually get them all found, but it's hard to know where to look when the pacifier bounces a few feet.
