The Fifth Element, Fullscreen Edition DVD  —

Egypt 1914 - An English man reads the inscription on the walls. He sees something odd about the 4 elements (water, air, earth, fire). There seems to be a 5th element in these drawings. Suddenly it all gets dark. A spacecraft has landed right above the temple. Huge armored aliens come out. The aliens want some stones because they say war is coming and the stones are no longer safe on Earth.

300 years later - A huge meteor is floating in the air. The army is trying to destroy it. Father Cornelius tells them not to shoot because "evil begets evil.. shooting will only make it stronger". Of course they don't listen and they shoot at it until it grows big enough to destroy their ship.

Now for some "normal" life. Korben wakes up in his "normal" futuristic house in NY and starts his "normal" taxi job. As he is driving, a girl falls into his back seat! Korben goes against his instinct and helps her hide from the police, but what has he gotten himself into? You'll have to watch and see!

Characters
Bruce Willis plays Korben. He is a New Yorker and even in the future New Yorker's have an attitude (no offense!) Life has given him crap and he just deals as best he can. Bruce's sarcastic humor is the best. He's one of few truly funny action stars that will entertain everyone.

Police: Are you classified as human?
Korben: Negative, I am a meat popsicle.

Milla Jovovich plays Leeloo. She is a very unique girl both in character and in real life. She has a hard time trusting, but once she does she sure is happy all the time. In this part she has to play very innocent, basically she thinks everything is funny. She's got the muscle and the humor to go great along with Bruce.

Korben: What's your name?
Leeloo: Leeloo Minai Lekarariba-Laminai-Tchai Ekbat De Sebat.
Korben: Good. That... that whole thing's your name, huh? Do you have, uh... a shorter name?
Leeloo: Leeloo.

Ian Holm is Father Cornelius. He is nervous, just waiting for the world to explode. However, he will not give up! Ian was also funny in his part, mostly because he was so worried all the time.

Visual Effects
This futuristic society is overloaded with things we can only dream of. Flying cars are just one of the many improvements! Bruce's apartment is just a tiny room, but everything slides in or opens or goes up... making it into a bedroom, kitchen, shower, whatever he needs! A flying restaurant stops by his window for breakfast. It's all very cool.

The effects are great and very realistic. The futuristic items aren't all shiny and silver like we'd expect. They are just like any city, except now they are in the air! The buildings look the same from the outside, leaving the viewer to believe this future society just upgraded inside and around the buildings, but didn't tear anything down. The weapons are cool also, but you can see that for yourself :)

Genre
Action/Comedy/Sci-fi/Adventure. Some might not say comedy but I say it is filled with it. I love sarcasm :) and this movie has loads. This keeps the movie light, so you are enjoying it in a fun way instead of a stressful way. The action is found in chase scenes that are very well done, bombs and explosions, and much more! The sci-fi is obvious; it's in the future after all. Finally there is adventure as we travel to other galaxies and imagine what the future may be like.

For Who?
I don't recall anything that would be unfriendly to teens, so I'd say 14 and up no problem. If you watch it with them, maybe even younger kids. The movie is light, and not very scary. It's entertaining and action filled, without a lot of blood and swearing. If you would let your kids watch Die Hard, you could easily let them watch this.

Conclusion
This movie always sticks in my mind every time I see it, and I've seen it many times. It's a fun view of the future! Imagine when you are stuck in traffic if you could just fly over everyone. I really enjoy this movie and can't think of any cons, so go rent it today!
