The Eyeballing Game is a game located on a woodworking web site created by a gentleman named Matthias Wandel.  If first learned of the site through a Very Short List e-mail.

The idea of The Eyeballing Game is to test your visual acuity by performing 7 tasks: making a parallelogram, finding the midpoint of a line segment, bisecting an angle, finding the center of a triangle, finding the center of a circle, making a right angle, and finding the point of convergence of 3 lines (shown in picture at the top of the review).  To play the game, click and drag the target to where it is supposed to be for the task.  Don't let go of the left click button until you have the target where you want it.  When you place a target, you are given a score according to its accuracy.  Like in golf, a lower score is better.  You have to perform each of the 7 tasks 3 times, and your final score is an average of your scores on the individual tasks.  The web site records the best 4 scores recorded on your computer and the best scores of the last 500 games played by all players.  In addition, when you finish a game, your score is shown on a graph of the distribution of the last 10,000 scores recorded.

The Eyeballing Game is fun and very addictive.  See how good of a score you can get, then challenge your friends and family to do the same.

This is a great example of why I love Very Short List. I never woukld have known about this site if not for VSL. As for the game, the two I have the most trouble with are the parallelogram and finding the center of the triangle. The real challenge is that you have to be pretty consistent to get a good score. On several occasions, I've had a good average, only to ruin it by butchering two or three in a row.

BOY, was this FUN! I just spent 15 wonderful minutes with this thing. My best score was 6.62 which is not so great but better than I had expected. You've got to be careful not to accidentally "right click" in the heat of the moment PLUS I think I have a lot to learn about bisected angles. Everyone has their own strong point, I suspect, and mine was finding the center of things. I had at least one center of a circle which was dead-on perfect, if I do say so myself! Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful find with the rest of us and have a nice day!
