Affordable, yet mildly unsettling

The Eifel Tower is as beautiful in life as in art. One truly appreciates the scale when standing beneath it, and it is a lovely greeting to the city of paris as it can be seen enroute from the airport. Although the trip up the eiffel is not covered by the museum pass, it is an affordable amount. The only thing that put me off, besides the hieght, were the slew of gaurds, dressed in camoflage and carrying machine guns. Is such a thing really necessary? It surely is intimidating, but also assures a level of security as I am continuosly bombarded with signs warning against pick pockets. The walk to the tower is beautiful as you can follow the Siene river. A must see for anyone, better than on a television screen or in a book.
