The Drinkwell Pet Fountain Review Summary

Cat owners who are concerned about the safety and comfort of their pets can't live without the Drinkwell Pet Fountain! This water fountain provides fresh, running water for your cats throughout the entire day. People love it because it is quiet and it encourages cats to drink water from it rather than their sinks, bathtubs, or toilets. Some owners describe it as "high maintenance", though, as it is expensive, the filters must be replaced, and it can difficult to clean. Despite the extra time and money involved in maintaining this unit, almost all of the cat lovers who own this unit highly recommend the Drinkwell Pet Fountain.

I purchased the The Drinkwell Pet Fountain because my cat, Miles, has this thing where little bumps form around his lip area if he isn't well hydrated (I believe it's called ____ granulosa.  I have a horrible memory and the sheet isn't right in front of me...).  Besides giving Miles a cat food with...

ok, so some of us like to spoil their pets. I had bought one of these and clean it up every day to keep it running smoothly and after one month the motor stoped working. I was told to buy a new one or replace the motor for a price and for s&h.

I said forget it i'll go back to dish and water, some things...

We've been using the Drinkwell for about two years.  The fact that it filters the water is the main feature we were looking for.  After all, we are drinking filtered water; why shouldn't our cats?  The charcoal filter is supposed to filter out bad tastes and odors.

Our cats love to drink from the running spout!  The water is continuously aerated and flowing.  It seems a more natural way to get their water.  It's not stagnant water like when drinking from a bowl; it is oxygenated.

The major drawback of the Drinkwell is that it isn't easy to clean.  However, Drinkwell offers a set of brushes...

Cats absolutely loves this watering dish.  Now they don't sit on the counter and drink out of the spout.  Cats are said that they like running water better.  However, if you have dogs in the house or heavy drinkers, they can drain the water and run the motor out, so be careful.

The Drinkwell is a superb pet product.  My ferret loves it.  It is a fountain that continuously runs a stream of water.  Instead of my pet having to drink stale, stagnant water this product continually aerates the water.  I think this increases the oxygen, which is good for my ferret.  it holds about a gallon of water and I change the filters every two months.  I use filtered water since I don't need my ferret to ingest bad chemicals.  In addition, I think the ferret has fun.  The first few days she ran around it continually.  Maybe the noise is soothing.  Regardless, this is the best. ... review »

This item gave me relief.  My cat used to always drink from the bathtub faucet.  I would get nervous that he would perhaps get sick if I hadn't rinsed the tub off well enough after cleaning it.  He loves the fountain.  It's quiet running and holds several days worth of water.  Cleaning the fountain is a little annoying, as it is hard to reach into certain areas, but overall, well worth the investment.

The Verdict:  My cats love this water fountain. They drink more water now that we have it and seem to enjoy drinking from the stream. I like the sound of the trickling water.

Just the Facts:  We go to a cats only vet and during an open house at their office last summer I won a Drinkwell Pet Fountain in a raffle they had.  I entered the raffle hoping to win this prize (there were other prizes but I wanted the fountain) and was very pleased when they called to tell me I had won.

The Drinkwell is sort of like a combination well and waterfall for small pets.  I have the small version of this fountain...

Intro:  I bought the Drinkwell Pet Fountain a few months ago and my two cats love it, so therefore I love it!  :)  At first, the concept of pampering pets with a ~$50 water fountain seemed 'over-the-top'.  But after researching the concept I realized the obvious, that it is natural for animals to want fresh, running water.  The Drinkwell pet fountain is an effective way to keep pets healthy, especially since cats are prone to UTI's if they don't drink enough water.

My cat, Kilala, was very picky about her old water bowl.  I noticed that I hardly ever saw her drink from it.  However,...

I bought this fountain several years ago. While cleanup is almost painful, both my cats loved it from the start.
I disagree about the length of time the info sheet claims the water lasts - that really depends upon the cats and if you purchase the extra reservoir. However, the bonus is that because the fountain filters the water it's not necessary to clean out the bowl and provide fresh water daily. The fountain does that for you!

Recently I purchased the Drinkwell Platinum - almost twice the price, but it comes with a *massive* reservoir and is *very* easy to clean. I kept the old Drinkwell for out...

The drinwell pet fountain is a convenient way to keep fresh water available for your pets.

Comes with either a 50 oz or 75 oz resovoir and 3 charcoal filters.

I use the large reservoir since i have multiple cats and only have to refill it every 7-10 days.

That cats love the constant spout of water and it encourages them to drink.

I have to rinse/wash it out 1-2 times a month which isn't bad, but it is difficult to clean out.  You'll need special small brushes to scrub out all the inside areas.  Also, I wish the power cord was detachable from the fountain's base to make it easier to unpug for cleaning....

I have three of these in my house.  (I have 7 cats).  I tried the other brand of fountain and found it unacceptable because the reservoir is small and impossible to clean.  The Drinkwell is easy to disassemble and clean and the reservoir is MUCH larger.  I have the additional capacity reservoir so that it doesn't run out of water every day (7 cats, remember?!).  When disassembling it, the only problem I've ever had is forgetting to replace the impeller when I put it back together.  Helpful hint:  It won't run without the impeller!  The first fountain has been with me for a couple of years...

I purchased the Drinkwell Pet fountain 5 years ago for my daughters two cats nad my one cat. They aall lived at my house and the one cat of my daughter liked to paw at the water in the water dish till he had it all over the floor. When i purchased the drinkwell fountain he stoped doing that. They liket he running water and moving water does not get stagnat like standing water does. The only thing about the drinkwell fountain that is bad is that the filter will clog up with cat hair from time to time. Other that that it has been a favorit with the cats.

We had a cat that just loved the faucet. This got to be a problem once we moved and did not have a constantly leaking faucet. We decided to keep her entertained and happy with this faountain. She loved it.

We all love it!!

The main downside is having to clean/refill it.  I wish it had a bigger tank and that the filter did not get clogged so easily.

I have long haired cats and it gets a bit annoying to clean constantly.  But it keeps them all happy!

Cheers!

I love this product!!!  I have the biggest one available for my two cats and yes. my golden mix dog He is a little messy, but he loves it too.

The cats are thrilled.. My older cat always wanted to drink out of the faucett, now drinks cheerfully from this . The kitten, has never had anything else since she came from the shelter.

This is a really good product. I imagine that there will always be one here for my pets

We have 4 cats and a labrador retriever puppy.  We purchased the Drinkwell Pet Fountain 360.  The whole reason behind purchasing this was to encourage our cats to drink more water.  We had 1 cat with recurring urinary tract infections.  Our vet had recommended trying to increase her water intake daily.  Cats are always attracted to running water and we wanted an easy to use pet fountain.  Free-flowing water that was filtered in an easy to use system is what we looked for.  After doing research, we found the Drinkwell Pet Fountain.   We introduced the Drinkwell to our cats and each one...

I can't even remember how long ago it was now since I first purchased a Drinkwell Pet Fountain for my cats ... at my husband's suggestion.  At first I thought, "That's crazy to spend money like that when they can drink just fine from any bowl."  However, he proved right (which I'm constantly reminded of) and the cats love this fountain.

Another reviewer apparently had a problem with a faulty motor on the pump; I have not.  Mine is still the original unit, and it has been running 24/7 for several years.  With periodic cleaning, I've never experinenced a single pumping problem, and the motor...
