I absolutely love this product as much as my cat. At first she was a little hesitant about the fountain, but I kept showing her that's where her water is now and she finally learned.
She was one who like to drink out of the tub, mostly for the attention. We have a big water dish for our dog. It is the one that is free flowing once you fill the huge jug. She would only drink from there when no one look. Also, I have found that she drinks from the fountain a lot more since I moved it away from her food area. It used to be next to her food, and she didn't drink as much from it. She would still sneak in the tub to drink water. The makers of Drinkwell told me when I emailed them, to move it away from her feeding station. It was a total success!
It was a bit costly, but nothing of good quality is cheap. I feel I paid for a great piece of equipment. It will help keep my cat healthy and that is what is important to me. I also purchased the additional resevior for it, which I believe hold a additional 52 ounces. I can go away for a week and not worry about the water being to low for the motor to burn out.
The cleaning process is time consuming, and you have to make sure you have all parts together just so. The filters are somewhat costly as well, but I try to rinse them with each fill. That way I hope to prolong the life of them. We also have artisian well water, that helps.
