review »I have been to the Detroit Zoo so many times in my life it is impossible to count. As a child I remember the zoo as being great, and huge. It is still great, but it is now much better. It is cleaner and much more educational than it used to be. Definately worth going to a minimum of once or more a year.
The penguin house is cool, the picnic area is nice. The food is a bit expensive, but you can easily carry a picnic lunch, which is what we always do.
Take a picture of your family by the big fountain.
The Detroit Zoo is a great place to spend a day. There are many different types of animals there. The habitats are designed to look open (no cages). The zoo is fairly large, good for walkers. During the summer, the gardens are beautiful. The fall is also beautiful there.
Also, peacocks roam the zoo free to go where they want.
By far, the polar bear/arctic circle habitat is the best, it's beautiful! The Outback area is really cool too.
If you live in the area and go more than 1 a year, I highly recommend getting a membership. It includes going in and parking each time you go. You also...
review »We are not big fans of the local Detroit zoo. There arent even elephants anymore? We have found that we like going to a zoo over near Kalamazoo much more. Our zoo seems so dirty and spread out. Not knocking it but just not our favorite.
