The Dark Knight Review Summary

"The Dark Knight strikes with power as Batman returns."  Batman fans and comic book fans were waiting anxiously for the July 2008 release of The Dark Knight ever since they saw Batman Begins.  As you can see from the ratings, reviewers were far from disappointed.  "The Dark Night was a wonderful dark and creepy thrill ride."  With Christian Bale returning as Batman, and Heath Ledger being a smash hit as the demented Joker, reviewers seem to think the actors made the movie.  "If [Ledger] does not win Best Supporting Actor for this movie, then there is something seriously wrong with the Academy."  Reviewers especially recommend watching it at the IMAX where the screen was so large "I felt like I was actually in the city at times."

There is a reason why Batman is absent from the title The Dark Knight. Everybody keeps saying that this isn’t your father’s Batman. I do think, however, that this is your father’s father’s Batman when the Caped Crusader first made his debut in 1939. Back then Batman was, perhaps, the most brutal... read full review »

The Dark Knight is as confusing and convoluted as Batman Begins was straightforward.  In Batman Begins, the plot is easy to follow and well written.  Even with the introduction of brand new characters like Lucius Fox and rarely seen ones like...

As The Dark Knight begins, a scant year has passed since Bruce Wayne, in his guise as the Batman, plunged himself into Gotham City's war on crime and ruined the Scarecrow's attempt to eliminate the entire metropolis.  The mob, who once owned the city are now mostly  running scared from this masked vigilante.  After all, with the help of Lt Gordon, he has come very close to cleaning up the city.  But, all is not well. The public, you see,  are ingrates.  They don't really understand the Batman, so they are calling for his head.  To make matters worse, he has spawned copy cats, guys who show... read full review »

The Dark Knight serves as the sequel to 2005's Batman Begins, where Director Christopher Nolan re-invented the Batman franchise.  Christian Bale returns as Batman, and though he is still new on the job, he has made quite an impact on cleaning up Gotham City.  It has however, annoyed the mob as well as many other criminals, and he is about to face a blow-back from just how well he has performed his job.  Now he is going to come face to face with a psychopath who wants to not only take down Batman, but burn everything down around in an effort to really destroy the man behind the mask.  Now Batman... read full review »

I had high expectations and Dark Knight delivered-- and then some. Heath Ledger was fantastic as the joker and the highlight of the film. I am sure his family was so proud to see him pull off such an amazing on screen performance. The rest of the cast was excellent as well, but the Joker definitely stole the show. (not only with the acting performance but with the plot line) Batman had me tense the whole time and there wasnt a moment of dullness. The movie was action packed from "go".... like a thrill ride.

The only downside to the movie is that it is a little long and I wished they did a little...

Given the prominence of The Joker in the Batman mythos - he has been the Caped Crusader's archnemesis since 1940, after all - it isn't surprising that once Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer had done the "origins of..." exposition in Batman Begins, the original "killer clown" would be the Villain of the Day in The Dark Knight.  Fans would have walked out of any sequel to the 2005 franchise-rebooter had Nolan decided to feature Mr. Freeze or Poison Ivy, especially if they had paid attention to the ending of Batman Begins, but The Joker is to Batman what Lex Luthor is to Superman - the ultimate...

I am not going to go into great detail here, if you have watched any tv in the last few months, then you know what this movie is about, you know who is in it, etc, so, just my opinions. I am not a huge action movie person, and definitely not one for all the super hero/comic movies, but have liked a few, Batman Begins being one of them. My husband is a HUGE batman fanatic and has been since childhood, so, I hopped on the batman bandwagon years ago, therefore making me excited about this movie from the minute Batman Begins ended, showing the jokers card. I am not a comic book reader, and don't get... read full review »

I tend to shy away from violent movies, but I heard so much about Heath Ledger's performance in The Dark Knight, that I was curious to see if the performance lived up to the hype.  It did.

This Batman movie was something I didn't expect.  Instead of a mindless popcorn movie, this version of the Caped Crusader was dark, brooding, and deeply philosophical.  Ledger's Joker is no campy cartoon character.  Instead, Heath brings a sadistic insanity to his role that is frightening precisely because it is so realistic and believable.  He is never over the top or cheesy and never becomes a caricature,...

From the IMAX Website:

"THE DARK KNIGHT: THE IMAX EXPERIENCE, from Warner Bros. Pictures, will feature six sequences filmed with IMAX® cameras. This marks the first time ever that a major feature film has been even partially shot using IMAX cameras, marking a revolutionary integration of the two film formats."

So was this "revolutionary integration" as good as it sounds?
Yes it was!!  Amazingly I was the only person in our group that noticed that the screen went from Widescreen (like a regular movie but larger because of the size of the IMAX screen) at some parts, to filling the full huge IMAX...

I would just like to start by saying that I am nowhere close to being an expert on movies. I am, however, both hard to please and incapable of staying still, so I thought I would put in my two cents on this summer's most highly anticipated film.

I live in a small town in Maine, and our one "good theater" had sold out 4 screens for the midnight showing -- unheard of in a place where you could buy tickets day of for the release of Star Wars. Regardless, I was a little skeptical that this was more due to Heath Ledger's untimely death than to the movie itself, and I was definitely worried that I was...

For someone who has never seen a batman movie from start to finish AND hardly ever goes to the movies, I really enjoyed this flick. The imagery was invoking, the acting was brilliant, and the storyline interesting. I'm not an expert on batman or the series, just a casual movie goer and someone who usually never enjoys this genre of film. I thought that Heath Ledger's performance was wonderufl, as was the rest of the cast was equally good. I guess I am a fan of the series now, and will likely rent some of the older movies to see what I've been missing!

The Dark Knight is the latest in the Batman series. One word sums this up...WOW!

Christian Bale is back again as a fine Batman. (My favorite is and always will be Michael Keaton) And Heath Ledger does a remarkable job as the Joker. (Here too, I have to say my favorite is Jack Nickelson)

Right from the very beginning the movie starts out with a burst of action. Bad guys, who are affiliated with the Joker, start robbing mob banks. Everyone is mad, blaming each other and trying to figure out where they can stash their money. The mob boss in Hong Kong decides he's going to take everyone's money and...

Wow.  As a very big fan of Batman Begins, and as one of the many that hated where the 90's Clooney/Schwarzenegger Batmans' took the series, I must admit that this movie blew me away.  Christian Bale again played the conflicted superhero to perfection.  Morgan Freeman provided another excellent performance.  Aaron Eckhart was also excellent as Harvey Dent.  I must admit that the gadgets have gotten even better, The Batman motorcycle makes an extended appearance and thank god Robin and/or Alicia Silverstone isnt riding it.  For us Chicagoans, we can get excited as half the movie portrays Chicago...

First let me say that at first the only reason I wanted to see the movie was for Heath Ledger's performance.  I watched the first movie two nights before deciding to go and thought wow this is different from all the other Batman movies.....much darker.  It was very good and made me more "on the edge" to see the next in line.

I get to the movie, settle in, and the questions are running through my head.  Will Maggie G be a good replacement for Katie Holmes?  Will Heath Ledger really be as good as they say?  Will the movie make me want more?

The answer to the first question came by the middle...

Bottom-Line:  This is a dark one folks, leave the kiddies behind.

Written by brothers Jonathan and Christopher Nolan, and directed by Christopher (Batman Begins) this installment of the DC Comics Batman franchise, The Dark Knight, sees Christian Bale (3:10 To Yuma) once more in the black bat suit.   Batman is now firmly entrenched in the ethos of Gotham City and has organized crime on the run and looking over its collective shoulder.  Joining Batman in his War on Crime is Lt. James Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Gotham City's new District Attorney.

But there is...
