The Da Vinci Code Review Summary

Author Dan Brown has "stirred up quote a bit of controversy" with his book The Da Vinci Code. Filled with "secrets, chases, danger, death and a lie that has been covered up," Brown appears to be knowledgeable, but some reviewers question why he presents this fiction as fact. The Da Vinci Code. makes you look more deeply into your core beliefs while chronicling "a college professor's adventure through the world of religiouse dogma and Catholic conspiracies." Because of the fact vs. fiction issue, the book became quite controversial and even inspired a film. Many Brown fans wished the had read The Da Vinci Code. before Angels & Demons. finding the latter to be a far superior book.

You've heard the buzz. The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown has stirred up quite a bit of controversy. — While I won't give away the plot, thinking there may be a few readers who haven't read the book or seen the movie yet, I will say that it is an excellent read. It is a real page turner. —… read full review »

Although I'm an avid reader - family lore has it that I learned to read at the tender age of two - and have read maybe over 1,000 books (I'm guessing here), there are some genres that I simply don't enjoy much. —  For instance, I'm quite certain I'll never read anything by Alexandra… read full review »

I'm well aware that this book sat on many bestseller lists for a long time.  I was working at a bookstore when The Da VInci Code debuted, and my coworkers and I read it just days after it was released.  And in the year following I talked many intelligent readers out of reading it (or at the very least warned them what they were falling into).  I love controversy.  It's great... it keeps the blood pumping.  But this book was full of poorly planned plot devices and bad grammar (which hopefully have been edited out since the first edition).  Dan Brown's… read full review »

If you keep in mind that this is a work of FICTION, it is one of the best novels I have read in a long time - and is probably my favorite book second to Dan Brown's Angels & Demons. —  Dan Brown bases a lot of the book in fact, but you need to remember it's fiction and he does take some liberties to help his storyline. The plot keeps you guessing the entire time - its a great page-turner. If you are intersted in history, art, or religion this is a must-read! —… read full review »

This was a page turner that didn't disappoint.  Offered many insights into history and art, and it's always great when something makes you look more deeply into your core beliefs.  I hope Dan Brown writes another in the series with this great lead character, too. … read full review »

Bottom-Line: Anyone with an interest in religious history should enjoy this book, as well as those who enjoy a challenge for their brain — I am not a religious man; truth be told I am an atheist, a man of logic, reason, and a tad too many questions about the whole God thing for most religious folk to answer.  Organized religion is not for me, there has been and continues to be far to much suffering in the name of God, and far too much hypocrisy at the hands of those we should trust to live virtuous lives.  That I view religious institutions as those set up to control the… read full review »

Dan Brown is lost in the tangled web he has woven.  He appears so knowledgable about his "facts" and this book that has so many hypothese which he presents as truth that the audience forgets this is fiction.  But it is fiction.  I admit it's entertaining, but Brown left his mind open to long and it fell out.  My question is why?  Why does he except as fact spurious research some of which is based on the "testimony" of a forger and self admitted liar.  The writing flows and he has a nice style.  To bad he was as careful about his research.  For… read full review »

I'll just say upfront that I'm an Orthodox Christian, and the ideas Brown presents about Jesus in this book are heretical, and actually quite laughable for those who know even a bit about history.  But, I could forgive Brown the heresy if only he knew how to write a decent plot! — — It's an interesting idea, and who doesn't love a good conspiracy theory?  Aside from the fact that Brown seems to think he's writing historical fiction that's a bit more historical than it is (are we supposed to take seriously his assertion that the Priory of Sion was real?), he just… read full review »

I loved the book, but read it before reading Dan Brown's first book.  After reading Angles and Demons, I decided that the DeVinci Code was not his best work.  I think the reason that it sold so many copies was the fact that it was controversial.  Society loves that stuff.  But I think they forget that even though there were some facts in there, it was a fictional book.  Overall it was worth the read but just not the best of Dan Brown's books.  Plus after reading 2 of his books by the time I got to Digital Force, his style was to familiar and I never finished that… read full review »

I liked the book very much much as it challenged me to think about my faith. It brought to think about whether if the data were correct would it impact on my faith, would it bring down the divinity of Christ for me and it did not I think that on the contrary it reinforced it. It showed me that Christ was human first and that what make him extraordinary and being able to lead people. I did not see the book as an outrage to my faith but an opportunity to mature in my… read full review »

This book was amazing... I just couldn't put it down. I get so tired of hearing the controversial part of the book... Just read it! It's supposed to be a fiction book and yes, there is some history to it... but that's what makes it so great. It's fast-paced and really a great piece of writing. Remember, IT'S JUST A… read full review »

I could not put this book down! I thought that it was a fantastic book and kept me on the edge of my seat. I was pleased with the way the movie was made and how it kept to the script of the book. After I finished reading the book, I went out and read the rest of Dan Brown's stories, and thought they were all as great as the Da Vinci Code. —… read full review »
