I'll just say upfront that I'm an Orthodox Christian, and the ideas Brown presents about Jesus in this book are heretical, and actually quite laughable for those who know even a bit about history.  But, I could forgive Brown the heresy if only he knew how to write a decent plot!

It's an interesting idea, and who doesn't love a good conspiracy theory?  Aside from the fact that Brown seems to think he's writing historical fiction that's a bit more historical than it is (are we supposed to take seriously his assertion that the Priory of Sion was real?), he just monumentally failed in the execution of the plot.  His writing style is elementary and choppy (how many times can Robert Langdon "wince" in one night?), his descriptive powers leave much to be desired, and he seems unsure of how to bring the book to a proper close.

Brown isn't writing classics.  I fear he's getting more attention than he deserves merely because he's controversial.  How boring.  It would be better to spend your time rereading the classics.  If you're up for a good murder mystery, try Dorothy Sayers.  She's much more deserving of your time.
