This thought-provoking, controversial book does a masterful job of combining real-life works of art, architecture, people, and places, with religious hypothesis and fictional characters.  This is a real page turner and delight to read.  However, I would strongly recommend reading the book before seeing the movie.  There is a lot of background information provided in the book regarding artifacts, locations, etc., that is hard to translate on screen without seeming preachy or scripted.  I think it interferes with the pager turner theme and makes the movie more lengthy and slow paced than it should be.
