The Closer, one of TNT's wonderful prime time programs, is a well written, well acted, fast-paced drama with a clever touch of comedy. Kyra Sedgwick shows her versatility as an actress as Deputy Chief Brenda Lee Johnson of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The title of the series comes from Sedgwick's character's ability to close the most difficult cases. She is a police officer who has been brought to Los Angeles by her former boss (a man with whom she has a romantic past) to head a department devoted to solving "priority homicides". Her rank of Deputy Chief places her above a number of officers who at first resent her but soon learn to respect her talent. Since the series began, the department has expanded its focus to include all "major cases".
While she is brilliant in her ability to solve crimes, it's in her relationships with people, both at work and at home with her FBI boyfriend (who has since become her husband) and her parents who occasionally appear, that the comedic moments occur.
The Closer is a show that both my husband and I look forward to watching. We record it on our DVR so we never miss an episode.
