The Closer —

The Closer- Complete First Season (also available in a Season 1 & 2 pack)

The next time you are at a store buy this. What a great series. The show is about an Atlanta investigator/profiler who takes a new job with the LA Police Department. She encounters a cast of characters who initially are suspicious of her because she is an outsider and a woman. But once they see her in action, they find even more ways to dislike her. She finds herself in competition with the head of Robbery and Homicide, played by Robert Gossett. Kyra Sedgwick plays Brenda Johnson, a CIA trained ace interrogator who is known for "closing" difficult cases. Her tough attitude irritates the locals and antagonizes her co-workers. They secretly refer to her as "Scarlett O'Hara" and "Miss Atlanta". However, in the end she elicits great loyalty from her team and that further infuriates Gossett's character.
The first story of the season deals with a dead, eccentric computer genus who is murdered at home. The clues are almost non-existent especially since no fingerprints are found. The twists and turns and final outcome that viewers don't see until the final scene keep you fixated to the end.
Sedgwick is great in the title role. She plays it with style, humor and a touch of sexiness as well as a soft southern accent. Once you see the first episode, you will be drawn in to the series. Other actors in the series include J.K. Simmons, Brenda's boss Assistant Police Chief Will Pope and Brenda's former lover, Corey Reynolds, G.W. Bailey, Tony Dennison as members of the Priority Murder Squad and Jon Tenney, Brenda's new love interest and FBI agent, Fritz Howard.

The Closer- Complete Second Season
The Second Season of "The Closer" is back and so are all of the gang. Brenda has finally been accepted by her team and they are glad to have her as their chief. This season's episodes are a delight. There is action, drama, comedy and romance all wrapped up in one Brenda Johnson. Now that her team accepts her, she can turn her attention to other things, like solving the murder of an LA cop or the senseless attack on three college kids. The twists and turns of each story brings the viewer in and keeps them riveted to the end. The stories are both heartwarming and serious. Sometimes a bit of fun is inserted, especially in the episode where Provenza and Flynn find a dead woman's body in Provenza's garage. The resulting story is at once enjoyable, humerous, and well acted.
Fritz Howard is also playing a role in Brenda's life in this season. They decide to move in together now that his lease is up for renewal. However, neither can anticipate the turn of events when Brenda's mother shows up to attend the funeral of a dear old aunt. The laughs come non-stop as Brenda and Fritz try to outwit the sharp eyes of her mother. In the end, they confess the truth and all is well in the world. Now...how do they tell her father?
Who can anticipate the turn of events when Will Pope's wife turns out to accuse Brenda of having an affair with her husband. Unexpected help comes from a reluctant Captain Taylor and Brenda can get on the with the task at hand. But who would expect Brenda to need the services of a smarmy lawyer to beat back Estelle Pope's personal attacks on Brenda's reputation.
My favorite episodes though are the last two. Brenda and Fritz face a confrontational FBI agent who is guarding a potential Mob informant. The only problem is that another FBI agent and the informants wife are found dead with the informant nearby. The resulting story finds the LA PD taking over the custody of the informant until a shocker in the squad room threatens to break up Priority Homicide and end the careers of Brenda and Provenza.
The final episode of the season has Brenda called back into action by the federal government with the promise of getting her job and more importantly, her squad back together. This episode plays a fine line between current world events and terrorists on the US soil.
Overall, I enjoyed the whole season and would recommend it to anyone who was pulled into Season 1. Even if you didn't get the chance to view the first season, this dvd will certainly convert you to a rabid Closer fan.

The Closer- Complete Third Season

The action and fantastic story lines continue with Season 3 of The Closer. Kyra Sedgwick has the title role of Deputy Chief Brenda Lee Johnson down to a "t". This season's cases are some of the best she has had to face. Her team is now an ace investigative group with just the right amount of wacky attitudes and slip ups to keep you interested.
Kyra Sedgwick has created one of television's most unforgettable characters. She now owns the quirky, snack-obsessed investigator who always gets her man or woman. She continues to fascinate viewers with her professional and even more complicated personal life. Some additional detectives were added early on in the series including Michael Paul Chan, Gina Ravera and Raymond Cruz. Their additions make the series even more watchable.
In this season's episodes, the detectives and investigators of Priority Homicide deal with a missing child, a Homeland Security official who has driven off a cliff and a serial killer who likes the smell of burnt flesh to get excited. Mix in a complicated relationship with her mom and dad, a continuing love interest that is going to the next level, and enough crimes to keep the action moving and you have a series of extraordinary excitement.
"The Closer" is one of those shows you will want to watch time and again. You will also want to share it with your family and friends.

Another wonderful review. I've watched a couple episodes of this show and just couldn't get into it, but you certainly make it sound appealing.
