The Choice Review Summary

Nicholas Sparks seems to have a knack for writing compelling love stories and The Choice is no different. He begins his latest novel telling us how the two main protagonists, Travis and Gabby, meet and the choice Gabby must make about their evolving relationship. As these people get to know each other better, she must decide if she should stay with her long time boyfriend, Kevin, or give him up for Travis. What really drives this story is the plot. One reviewer notes, "The characters are okay, but the plot twists are more compelling." And twist the plot does. Midway through the story we are brought face to face with the sort of life altering event that often drives Sparks' storytelling. Likely to illicit strong emotion as "This particular Sparks novel plays with a very controversial political debate." You will find yourself debating The Choice in your own mind and conscience as ultimately "Once again Nicholas Sparks makes us all believe that the truest of love is possible."

The beginning of the book was slightly slow but better than some of his others.
Actually, a lot of the beginning was absolutely funny and I loved how the two, Travis and Gabby, had met. Through out the novel the writer makes you eager to want to find out what exactly the "Choice" is. I thought it was...

I like reading books by Nicholas Sparks he seems to have a very sensitive nature and seems to know how to reach the hearts of woman, better than many female authors.  His books are often wrought with tragedy, but yet you will always find the deepest most truest love between his characters.

In the book...

I have been hearing how great Nicholas Sparks books are and was interested in reading one when I happened to get The Choice for Christmas.  After all the rave reviews for The Choice here on Viewpoints, I was totally disappointed when I finished the book.

Since this is my first Nicholas Sparks book, I can't say if it is his writing style I don't like, or the dreamy, unrealistic story line.

The Choice takes place in beautiful North Carolina.  Nicholas Sparks does do a good job of painting a beautiful picture of his home state.  That being said, the rest of the book was a total disappointment....

I recently started reading books by Nicholas Sparks and when I started this one I was excited. This book is about a man who had to make one of the most difficult decisions a person could have to make. The beginning of the book draws you in and makes you feel like you are one of the characters. I had so much trouble putting it down. I was there, part of this mans life understanding the difficulty of the choice that lie in front of him. I found myself looking at my own life and family and wondering what my decision would be if I were in the same circumstances. I would recommend this book to anyone.... review »

I've read all of Nicholas Sparks' books. He caught my interest when I saw he wrote about Eastern North Carolina which is where I live. His latest novel The Choice was slow-going at the beginning. It is about characters named Gabby and Travis who meet when they are next-door neighbors in Beaufort, NC. I thought "the choice" was going to be Gabby's between Travis and her boyfriend, but a plot twist turned that upside down. I'm always trying to predict what's going to happen, but the prologue fooled me, and I was off-base throughout the book.

This is not one of Sparks' best books. That would be The...

I love to read & especially Hardback books.  I'm not into the paperback, history romance type story.  I recently received a book called The Choice by Nicholas Sparks & thought I knew what it would lead to.  I was totally off the wall about it BUT I thoughly enjoyed this story.  It was different in that it made you stop & think about how you would deal with the same situation.  It kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next, it was down to earth & could have been written about any one, not just a personality type or someone who has it all.  It's a story based on 2 people attempting... review »

Sparks is beginning to become a "formula writer"--fine if you like the genre!! It becomes tiresome to read about a beautiful couple, with such minor character flaws that they are totally irrelevant! It is a very mindless way to pass the time, but with my limited reading time, I prefer a great read! Fine to borrow, but if you like through-provoking fiction, search for a book-club recommended book. I usually like Sparks, so was disappointed when the writing didn't grab my attention. i hope he proves me wrong with his next offering!

Great read! Was hard to put down and I definitely lost some sleep for that very reason! The skill with which Sparks can not only make you feel like you are right there as everything is happening but the way that he is able to make you feel the emotions is astounding! I'm a sucker for love stories and found myself not only drawn into this story but relating to every character. The characters seem so real as if Sparks were writing the story about someone who really exists. Again great read with lots of emotion!

"The Choice" made me make some decisons that I have been putting off for a long time.  I now have a "Living Will" so that my love ones will know what I want if they are faced with making such a choice.  I have read all of Nicholas Sparks'  books and have enjoyed all of them.  When I go to the library, his books are one of the first I look for.

No dissappointment here. I love Nicholas Sparks' books and have not read one yet that I didn't love. The one thing you can always be sure of with this author, you will run the whole range of emotions. I laughed, cried, was angry and surprised. This was an easy read and I read the whole book in two days.

Another fantastic book by Nicholas Sparks.  If you know his books, "The Choice" has a similar plotline to all others... with a much needed twist - somewhat different from the rest of his novels.  Very heart wrenching, yet uplifting!  Heres to hoping for another movie!

Not his best work, but definitely worth the read.  I thought I knew what the ending would be .... the choice between Travis and the boyfriend..... but I was surprised.

Nicholas Sparks work is an easy read that draws people in and make them want to be in North Carolina.

***** Another heart wrenching story by Nicholas Sparks. This book keeps you reading and turning every page.

Nicholas Sparks has got to be one of the best all time writers that I have come across. His books never seem to dissapoint me.

**In his recent book The Choice two neighbors are brought together by fate. While Travis Parker is anxious to get to know Gabby Holland, she on the other hand is distant and standoffish, hardly playing the nice neighbor. Travis sets out to win her over, and through a turn of event they find out that real love, comes in many different forms, and just what lengths someone...
