My son is like his momma - he would rather go without shoes.  But it is a necessity in most situations involving leaving the house.  With summer comes the need to wear less, yet keep little feet safe. (Plus shoes and socks with shorts - not really the best combination.)

Since Little Man had outgrown his previous pair, my search for fitting sandals lead to The Children's Place which had several items on sale.  At the time I had purchased these for $9.99 on sale from $14.99.  Currently you can find them for $6.50 (kicking self for not waiting).  But this has still been one of my best puchases this summer.

The sandals themselves have a very sturdy construction, unlike many toddler sandals that are made more of foam than anything.   The upper portion is made from faux-nubuck with mesh accents.  The straps have Velcro closure (more on that later).  They are available in three colors - Army (olive green), Navy (dark blue) and Black.  The soles are made out of sturdy rubber and traction for hiking.  This inside is lined with polyester tricot for comfort.

The sandals are available in sizes 6 toddler to 6 youth.  I had purchased size 6T which are slightly big but we can get a pretty good fit that doesn't encumber his adventures.  Since my son's feet are small for these sandals, the straps tighten as far as possible (actually if we tightened them as far as they should go his little feet would get pinched by the rubber pieces holding the straps).  Although Little Man can undo the straps, he has not yet pulled them or had them fall off since they fit so well.

My problem with these is there is a ton of excess Velcro (hook side) left over.  I highly doubt scrawnier feet will be placed into these shoes to use up that much extra.  So all it does is collect fur and any other fuzz that I have to pick out.

As far as I can tell from my son the sandals are comfortable, as he still allows us to put them on - without a fight.  As a toddler he loves to run, but still trips every so often.  I believe the sturdy construction assists him in his running adventures.   Plus, by having the sandals slightly larger we are ensured to make it at least through this sandal season.

Nice Carrie. Used to be one of Jenna's fav places. She's more into Limited Too now. Oh, for the record, there is no such thing as excess Velcro!

I need to make my way to a children's place. I have heard such great things about it (perhaps a good thing to review. Do you like it???) I am very partial to their high end line-- Janie and Jack but it is a total fortune!!!!!!!!!
