Fiction - but so possible - we'll never know

Nelson DeMille is my favorite author.  He writes serious suspenseful novels, but every now and then throws in a comment so irreverent that I wonder if I read it right and have to go back to re-read.  He can be such a smart- a.  His collection is a little uneven.  I can give them a definite ranking, with Spencerville at the bottom and The Charm School the absolute #1. It's long, but a page-turner and the surprises keep coming.  It's a book that haunts me.  I'll always wonder - what if that's what really happened? DeMille has the credentilals, so who knows?
