The Bucket List —

For my 200th Review I decided to try my hand at a movie review:

I don't review movies often but I am going to take a stab at it for The Bucket List. It is a movie that will have you laughing and choking back tears. Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman are the perfect actors to pull off The Bucket List.

My Take on The Bucket List

Edward Cole(Jack Nicholson) plays the part of a man with cancer and has 6 months to live. His whole life has been about the all mighty dollar and he wants for nothing, except a family to share his life with. He estranged from his only child and refuses to bow down and make up with her. Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman) also a man with Cancer and 6 months to live, is a family man that seems to have lost his true self. Through a twist of fate these two men are room mates in the hospital and through their pain and suffering they become friends.

Edward has his personal valet and plays the the part of a rich hospital magnet very well, having meals sent in. His roommate Carter is struggling with just trying to find out what is going on and Edward finally steps in and helps him out. Carter is secretly writing down the things he wants to do before he dies and before anyone sees it he crumbles it up and tosses it. Edward finds it and questions him and the adventure will soon begin. Carter leaves his wife behind and is off with Edward to find the Holy Grail of their lives.

Their combined list includes some very simple things to do before they die. Such as "Seeing something Majestic", "Kissing the prettiest girl in the world". and "Laughing until you cry". A list that seems to sum up their lives (or so they feel) and what they have missed out on during their time on earth.

They even discuss how to be buried, whether to be buried in the ground or cremated. Carter says he wouldn't want to wake up in a coffin and asks Edward if they still make caskets with bells. Then he comments that he wants to be cremated and put in an old "Chock Full Of Nuts Can". Which goes very well with the sometimes sarcastic Carter Chambers personality. Both are sarcastic. but Edwards is more brash while Carter seems to be more playful and at times almost the child of the two.

Carter wanting to find himself agrees to a whirlwind adventure with Edward and they begin to try and find themselves by traveling around the globe in Edwards private plane with his Valet in tow. I won't ruin the end for those that have not seen it yet, but I do believe you will be pleased with the movie.

Bottom Line

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and having lost a loved one to Cancer it perhaps touched me harder than it might for some. All through the movie I was making my own Bucket List in my head. I laughed and I was sad but I really enjoyed these two fine actors playing their respective roles.

An interesting little bit of trivia for you about the movie. Wichita had the highest grossing theater for the whole country last week for this very movie! I can attest to that as the lines to see this movie were astonishing! They literally wrapped around the place, so it was very well received right here where I am at. If you haven't seen this one yet you need to go, this movie is one of the best story telling movies I have seen in a long time.

One more bit of trivia on the movie Roger Carter in the Movie was played by Morgan Freeman's Son Alfonso Freeman! Who has had roles in many movies including the 10 year television show J.A.G. Which starred David James Elliott as Harm and Catherine Bell as Mac.

It is a good one and yes sad as well. Not as hard as I thought it would be to watch though, I just kept telling myself it's only a movie, not a complete cure but it did help. Thanks for reading ;-)

Sounds like a good movie - but awfully sad so hard to watch for me.
