The Brave One Review Summary

Reviewers are disagreeing somewhat with how they feel about the film The Brave One. While most consider it a "realistic emotional journey ... well done and violent," others claim "The Lame One has insulting plot and logic loopholes." Jodi Foster stars as a "Manhattan talk radio host with everything to live for" until she and her fiance are brutally attacked. He's killed, yet she survives, bent on avenging his death. Even Foster fans question if she, the actress, feels "like a victim of life," as her movies bend toward her playing a victim, Accused and The Silence of the Lambs up through Panic Room, and even though she's more comedic in Nim's Island, she plays an agoraphobic, fearing becoming a victim. At least with The Brave One, Foster "asks some tough questions, and doesn't give  easy answers." The vigilante in Foster coming out is what most reviewers that enjoyed The Brave One were thinking about as they came out of the theater, having been kept "on the edge of my seat from beginning to end."

This movie is well done and violent.  This is not the violence of an action flick where there is a certain element of surrealism that allows you to feel the things you see on a less than  serious level.  The viewer feels the violence in this film with the clear sense of right and wrong on a realistic... read full review »

Bottom-Line:  In the end The Brave One is a rather silly wannabe action movie, wherein the talents of people who should know better are terribly and tragically wasted.

What in the world is going on with Jodi Foster?  Does she feel like a victim of life?  Since becoming a single mother her movies have...

Here we have the latest twist on Death Wish/ Ms 45 which gives us A List Actors like Oscar winner Jodie Foster and folks like Terrence Howard, Mary Steenburen and Nicky Katt, directed by The Crying Game's Neil Jordan.   I'm gonna call this one The Lame One.

They could have made a worthwhile movie which makes this attempt all the more dissapointing.

THE BRAVE ONE wants to be controversial, intense and disturbing message movie.   Unfortunately it's annoying, insulting. and also far-fetched-and irresponsible to the point that you might roll your eyes with the illogical silliness of it all. ...

Jodie Foster stars as a Manhattan talk radio host, with everything to live for. She has a happy, loving relationship with her fiance, a job she loves and is successful with, and good friends. She loves the city, and her talk show revolves around it.

Then she and her fiance are brutally attacked. He's killed and she's in a coma for three weeks. She awakes to find that her fiance has been buried, and nothing is the same. Where once she felt safe, she now lives in fear.

She's driven to revenge and vigilantism. The police who hunt her assailant and her fiance's murderer now unknowingly hunt her as well,...

Anyone my age will remember the movie Deathwish and the sensation it caused. When The Brave One came out, there was the natural inclination to compare it to Deathwish, on account of the basic plot: a woman who is the victim of violent crime gets herself a gun and embarks on a streak of vigilantism. While there are similarities, the two movies are very different.

In The Brave One, Jodie Foster plays Erica Bain, a woman who makes her living by roaming the streets of NYC, recording sounds, and hosting a talk radio show about the sounds of the ever-changing city. She thinks she knows all there is to...

The Brave One stars Jodie Foster as Erica Bain a straight talking NYC radio show host who shares the sights and sounds of the city with her listeners. Also starring are Terrance Howard as Detective Mercer and Naveen Andrews as Dr. David Kirnani (also Erica's boyfriend).

My husband and daughter wanted to see this film. Not knowing anything other than the title I walked into the theater without any preconceived notions.

Before you go any farther you need to know that this review will talk about many details about the plot.

The plot:

The Brave One begins with Bain and Dr. Kirnani walking their dog...

as suggested by my sound bite, the reason I watched this DVD was because Jodie Foster starred in it..she plays Erica Bain, a radio talk-show host who becomes a vigilante killer when she and her fiance are attacked by street muggers; the fiance dies and Erica is badly hurt and hospitalized..

Comparisons with the Charles Bronson movie "Death Wish" are inevitable..in fact this film does follow a very similar plot line..the difference being that there is much more interplay between Jodie's character and the police detective hunting her..Over the course of the film they develop a friendship which is...

From the time she first started in movies I have enjoyed watching Jodie Foster bring a vaiety of characters to life. When she is in a drama, a comedy, thriller, action movie or romance her characters are completely believable. For me watching her portray a victum of a brutal assult  was not only realistic but it hit very close to home. I too was a victum of a very brutal assult and like her I went through many of the same emotions. I could identify with much of what she went through, even wanting to kill the one who had done it to me. But that is where the similarity ends. I can understand and...

This movie showed some true city violence - we may want to hide from it, but the truth is these things happen.  Jodie Foster did an awesome job of showing the "scared, don't want to be a survivor trauma" following a devastating event.  It was good to watch her make herself get back into the world - to fight the fear - and to finally become one tough vigilante lady seeking revenge.  Great movie - I'm sure the writer doesn't expect us to run out and become vigilantes, but it sure is awesome to see justice served for a change !!!

This movie is great - I exected great acting from Jodie Foster but this is one of her best. It definitely rivals even Silence of the Lambs.  And Trevor Howard was wonderful as Mercer, the homicide detective. Even though the first part of the movie is incredibly poignant and then sad, there's nothing that I would do over - this is one of those movies that you need to make sure you don't have to leave the theater while it's on!

This movie was great and it had my attention.  Jodie Foster is a great actress and I love her movies.  I would recommend this movie to everyone.  It will keep your attention through the whole movie.  This movie is not for kids and it has violent scenes throughout the movie.  Go and rent it, you will not be disappointed if you are a Jodie Foster fan.

This movie was wonderful. Jodie Foster plays a woman pushed to the edge and how she copes with her tragedy. Her portrayal of Erika is amazing as she lets the audience in step by step to see all her character goes through during this tragic time in her life.
