I just got back from seeing the very first showing of The Bourne Ultimatum. I was hesitant about how well Matt Damon would pull off a secret agent type role but, once I saw The Bourne Identity (the first in the trilogy), I was amazed and hooked. I saw The Bourne Supremacy (the second) in theaters on opening day and was totally on the edge of my seat at the very end. After seeing The Bourne Ultimatum, I'm plenty satisfied with how the trilogy ended.

Plot: Jason Bourne, continuing his mission of finding out what happened in his past, encounters newer, more skilled assassins and a government agent who will stop at nothing to silence him.

I was excited to see that Ultimatum left off directly where Supremacy ended. From the second the movie starts to the second it ends, it's pure adrenaline pumping action. The storyline flows along well with it's skillfully written plot twists and turns and, the same type of secret agent type maneuvering found in the previous movies. Whoever cast the first Bourne movie did an amazing job of finding actors who could fit the roles in this movie perfectly (the same actors stayed on for all three). Matt Damon performs wonderfully along with Julia Stiles, David Strathairn, Scott Glenn, Joan Allen, and Paddy Considine. (Side note: Paddy Considine is one of my favorite new actors and it's great to see him landing a role in movie as big as this.)

The real bulk of The Bourne Ultimatum is the action. I've seen literally hundreds of action and martial arts movies and, I can honestly say, this movie has one of the best fight scenes I've ever seen. Not only is it filmed in a tense, shaky manner not usually seen in action movies but, because its filmed in such a manner, it makes the action seem so much more realistic. I actually felt tense as if anything really could happen. Fight scenes are only one element of this fantastic movie. Ultimatum also has one of the craziest (and loudest) car chase scenes I've seen in years. Cars flying everywhere, ducking in and out of jam packed lanes, incredible crashes, and some of the loudest glass shattering ever.

The volume was really the only problem with this movie. The shaky style of cinematography could also affect some people who get motion sick very easily. The camera is constantly moving which creates a nice, tense effect but besides the motion sickness, it can also make it hard to follow the action. I didn't really have a problem with it though.

Overall, The Bourne Ultimatum was a fantastic finish to a heart pounding set of movies. I highly suggest seeing this movie if you've seen the first two Bourne movies or, were intrigued by the previews. You most definitely won't be disappointed.

MPAA Rating
: PG-13 (for violence and intense sequences of action)

Runtime: 1 hour 51 minutes

Year: 2007

Rating(out of 10): 9.4

Side Note: Even though it says PG-13, there are some pretty intense scenes of violence. Nothing too graphic, just some brutal fight sequences but, I'd keep it to 16 and over.

I finally saw this movie but I should have waited to read the books until after the movie. The whole time I was watching the movie I kept comparing it to the book (which it's nothing like). I think if they stuck more closely to the book that would have been a totally sweet movie.

I got Tom "The Bourne Ultimatum" for Christmas...we watched it and it was just as amazing as the first two! I love how they left the ending open again!

Great review. This movie was insane. Jason Bourne is a bad-ass!

I can't wait to see this movie. I've been reading the books and they are really great too.

Hey, great review! I have seen all of the movies now, but I'm biased when it comes to the story because I read the books first. And the books are completely different from the movies in every way imaginable! It's hard to separate the films from the novels, but if you can do it, both trilogies are very, very well done!

Do you really need to remember the old movies to enjoy it? I dont recall much.

When I asked the people in line at the theater which movie they were waiting for they said "Oh we're Bourne Agains."

AWESOME review! You certainly got your writing skills from your mother! I am a HUGE "Bourne" fan. I own both of the previous ones. I cannot WAIT to see this one! Thanks for the review!
