I think I've already admitted here at Viewpoints that I am a candle freak. If I haven't, consider it said. I love the way the light from candles and the scent that emanates from them add a sense of warmth to my home. However candles take up tons of room in my hutch and certain candles get sooty which detracts from the ambiance so they're not perfect.
Last fall I found something that is darn near perfect though - Home Fragrance Oils from The Body Shop. Home fragrance oils are available from TheBodyShop.com or in Body Shop stores which are located all around the world.
Body Shop Home Fragrance Oils are available in about a dozen different scents. Each bottle contains a mere 0.33 ounces of oil which seems small but they are very concentrated and potent so a little goes a long way. In October I bought 2 bottles of oil - one in Exotic and one in Satsuma - and I just today ran out of oil and went right back to The Body Shop after work to stock up again. I use them a few times per week.
To use the oils, just add about 10 drops to an oil burner or tart warmer and let it warm for about 10 minutes. The heavenly scent of the oils will fill your home very quickly. I have a soapstone burner that I add a bit of water to the well and then add the oils. This allows me to burn longer and dilutes the scent somewhat.
The first two scents I tried were Exotic which smells like melon and Satsuma which smells like tangerine. I chose those two scents as they were being burned at The Body Shop that day last fall when I was in the mall and the scent drew me into the store. They smell heavenly when burned together.
Today I purchased another bottle of Satsuma, Passion Fruit, and something called Caipirinha which is sort of a sweet lime scent but is really hard to describe fully.
Although I still love candles, I love that The Body Shop Home Fragrance Oils come in small bottles as I can have tons of different fragrances and they take up only a very small bit of space in one drawer of my hutch. I gravitate towards the fruity scents but they are also available in herbals, florals, and food scents around the holidays.
At $7.50 per bottle which seems a little pricey but when you consider the number of uses per bottle it's a pretty good value.
