The Bluebird is a relatively new bar/restaurant in Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood. They have an deep beer list, specializing in unique import and microbrews, plenty of wines, and a creative food menu.  Owned by the folks behind Webster's Wine Bar, you get the sense they wanted to create a similar experience, but for beer lovers.

I've been there a few times in the past month or so and really enjoyed my experiences. The main draw for me is the beer list, which features a lot of unique beers that you don't often find in bars. This list is heavy on Belgian imports, including many 750ml bottles, which you'll want to split with a friend. They also have quite a few smaller American microbrews; again you'll see brews that you don't see too often.

Beyond the beer, they offer a pretty extensive wine and spirits list as well. I didn't look too much at the wine list, so I can't comment on that (nor do I have the expertise), but the scotch and bourbon list was pretty decent, though a bit pricey on the scotch side.

As far as the food menu, it's a fairly adventurous mix of "small bites", light entrees, and flatbread (pizzas). We had steamed mussels, frites, and a side of green beans with bacon. Everything was was super flavorful and enjoyable. On the flip side, we also went for brunch, and I wasn't as impressed with the selections. When I go for brunch I expect to see more items on the "br" side; Bluebird's menu was definitely weighted towards the "unch" side.

Decor-wise, you'll see a lot of wood and exposed brick. Everything is pretty laid back, with a long bar and tables up front, and just tables in the back. Musically, they seem to lean towards jazz and loungy-er electro tunes, neither of which will overpower your conversations.

All and all, I'm impressed with what The Bluebird has to offer. It's a breath of fresh air and quality in a neighborhood that has been loosing it's laid back, arty style to the sports bar/post-college frat set (think Cans, Piece, The Tavern, etc.).

I am going tonight! What was the other beer that we had the other night other than Kwok that we really liked?
