This band is beautifully absurd, as if it were an art form. This particular album has a nostalgic quality to me because it sounds as if they've revisited the best of 80's rock and added something a little more modern. I can listen to it endlessly without it ever becoming tired of it too.

The guitar riffs are definitely reminiscent of the 80's, and there's even a rendition of "Tricky" that sounds almost as if Metallica had written the song themselves. I think if you're going to remake a song, you really should create something entirely different with it - and that's exactly what they have achieved with this classic!

I'm definitely a fan of the heavy, and this album offers some softer rock too. I like that it isn't all the same genre; it makes certain songs appropriate for some times, and the rest for others. I've actually rearranged the songs and burned them to another CD for this exact reason. One of my favorite tracks features "Rip Van Wrinkle" in a song called "Boom" and I think one of best lyrics from that song is, "Sneakin' up like celery, yeah I'm stalkin'."

The band claims that the lyrics are simply a compilation of nonsense that flies between them when they are hanging out - just a bunch of "stuff that sounds funny" to them. There really is no other explanation for it either, since it's not brain food by any stretch of the imagination! It isn't for the light-hearted; in sound, nor in lyrical content. You may have to first determine if your head is damaged enough to find it humorous - but I do. Perhaps if I told you that one of the creators of South Park was in my graduating class, you may better understand how truly bent I am - dark and inappropriate humor, I can relate to very well. Nothing like a pile of silliness set to heavy music to get me good and riled up for a night out!

There are a few "Internet friendly" Bloodhound Gang tastes for you below. I think I may have given enough warning above...but in case there is somebody reading this that actually needs to hear my disclaimer: I don't condone prejudice of ANY kind, but I would suggest that in making fun of that kind of thinking, we just may be able to overcome it by revealing the absurdity of it. Honestly, I really do miss the part of the 80's where we didn't have to clarify our humanity before admitting to have an inappropriate sense of humor (you know, before everything had to be "PC"). 'Nuff said.

Without further ado, here's some silliness...

from "I wish I was queer, so I could get chicks":

"Chicks dig guys that are
Queer, guys that don't dig
Chicks, that don't dig guys like me -
See I'm not queer, I'm too ugly"

from "Shut Up":

"I get wired like Western Union, and I got to be me
And I got more balls than the daily lottery
Like hemorrhoidal itch - yo you can't ignore me
'Cause I'm more tongue in cheek than a lesbo orgy"
...
" See my name's not Hoover, and I don't give a damn
And I got a different angle, like a parallelogram
And you'll be all ears like a field of corn
I'll make you Dizzy like Gillespie as I toot my own horn."

If you go to their website you will find "Lyrics Schmyrics" in the menu, which always makes for an entertaining (adult) read:

In response to Telpher's comment from Jun 11, 2008 at 4:21PM:

I read the Wiki-entry for fun when I was writing this review, and it really is funny stuff!
The fact that Geffen refused to release a song seems absurd, considering the things that make it into the market. I don't know how people can hear what they are recording and actually take it seriously, I mean COME ON!
