A young boys adventures with a wild Arabian Stallion make for an exciting, exquisitely beautiful film (thanks to stunning cinematography by Caleb Deschanel). The first half of the film begins with the shipwreck and since boy and wild stallion survive a deep bond grows between them. The second half is dominated by an absolutely superb performance by Mickey Rooney as a horse trainer.
It's an exciting, warm story perfect for the whole family. Nice supporting work by Teri Garr and Clarence Muse.
(Note: The 1983 sequel is only a so-so film that will be very disappointing to fans of this one. Skip it.)
