7 years ago, I weighed 233 pounds. I didn't eat anymore than the average thin person, in fact, I ate a lot less. I was diagnosed by my doctor with metabolic syndrome and polycystic ovaries. I was pre-diabetic and on 2 blood pressure pills and my blood pressure was still high. My step-father was losing weight on the atkins diet and gave me the book to read. I read the book and was intrigued and hopeful. I went to my doctor to ask him about the diet and did my blood work. He gave me the ok to try the diet, but told me to modify it to leaner meats and do blood work again in a month. I was losing weight pretty quickly. The first 4 days, I was hungry all the time, but just ate more meat or vegetables or a slice of cheese . After the 4th day, I never felt hungry. In fact, I had to remind myself to eat. I had detoxed from the sugar and my blood sugar levels were normal. When I went back to the doctor the next month, I was down 18 pounds, my blood pressure was normal and I was no longer pre-diabetic after just 1 month!. I was feeling great. My blood work did show a slight increase in cholesterol, but it was temporary. I began an exercise routine after thae first month since I had more energy and felt a lot better. I had to go back for more testing 3 months later and my cholesterol was better than it had been in years and I was down 37 pounds. I was taken off one of my blood pressure pills, because my blood pressure was a little low then. It took me 1 year and 2 months to lose 106 lbs and be at my current weight of 127 lbs. I have never felt better. I no longer have to take any prescription drugs. my blood work is great. my blood pressure is normal and my symptoms from the polycystic ovaries are not as severe. I have regular periods and have had 3 babies since I started this wonderful way of life. I was having trouble conceiving again after my first 2 kids. Now I have 5 wonderful children. It is not a diet for me. It is a life change. If you are thinking of trying Atkins, make sure you get a full checkup and take the supplements recommended in the book.
