I seriously cannot remember how I managed to do any kind of math before I bought a TI-89.  It is so incredibly powerful and can perform a ton of difficult operations, saving you a lot of time.  Unfortunately, the TI-89 is not allowed in many classes, but it is still useful for checking your homework or for quick calculations in independent work.  Also, it is rather necessary to read the manual as it can be a bit complicated to use.  But once you get used to it, it makes calculus easy and fun.  The pretty print technology, which sounds a bit lame, is actually very useful as it is easy to make an error with parentheses and whatnot.  I've been using this calculator for years and it still works perfectly; i have only had to change batteries two or three times!  I would definitely recommend this to anyone who plans on studying high-level mathematics.
