Quick View:I have brown highlighted hair and it sometimes look drab and dull. I have tried a few shampoos that claim to perk up brunette hair and add dimension and color and haven't been impressed. The only one that I like is LUSH's Reincarnate solid shampoo (see review). I had a gift certificate to Sephora so I splurged and tried this shampoo. It is no better than the cheap stuff. I don't recommend it.

About Ted Gibson Brazen Brown Shampoo

This shampoo promises to "deposit color to bring out rich brunette tones in both natural and color-treated medium to dark brown hair, as well as prolonging the life of color." Sounds good. This come sin a 10 ounce brown plastic bottle. There are other shades for different hair colors but I only tried this one.

The shampoo itself is brown and creamy. It smells nice and lathers fine. It rinses out looking dirty but that is just the color in the shampoo. When I used it, I did note that my hair color seemed deeper but my highlights were also muted which I didn't want. As for prolonging my color, I haven't colored my hair in a long time and it has stayed the deeper shade of brown I wanted. However, my roots come in lighter and I saw no prolonging of the color on my roots. My hair was shinier and looked fine but here's the drawback. The shampoo is $36.00 a bottle! For 10 ounces! I am all about great looking hair but that's crazy. I only got it because I had a gift certificate and really don't need MORE makeup so I thought maybe an expensive shampoo like this would really make a difference in my hair.

The active ingredients enticed me:

-Wild Orchid Extract: Tones and conditions scalp and prevents moisture loss.
-Punica Granatum: Gives strength and longevity to hair; cleanses toxins.
-Echinacea Purpurea Extract: Ensures lasting hair color.
-Jojoba Extract: Adds strength and shine to hair.

While this shampoo did deposit a bit of color and did leave my hair clean and a bit shiny, it didn't do much more than the cheaper shampoos made for color enhancement. I still like my soon to be discontinued (weep) LUSH Reincarnate solid shampoo better. It adds a bit of color, shine, and really does lengthen the time between root touch ups. And it's a heck of a lot less expensive than this stuff.

I have nothing very negative to say about this shampoo but, for the price, I wanted to be able to say glowing, positive things about it and I can't. It's actually pretty average. I don't know who Ted Gibson is or why he thinks he has a right to charge such ridiculous prices for hair products but I won't be buying any again.

My Viewpoint

This shampoo is vastly overpriced. It doesn't do enough to merit the $36.00 for 10 ounces I spent. I would willingly spend that on my hair if I saw major results but i didn't. I saw minor ones. I give this shampoo 3 stars based on performance (although I should take a star off for that crazy price tag) and I don't recommend it. There are much cheaper shampoos on the market that do the same thing or better things for your hair than this one.

Ted Gibson is Angelina Jolies hairdresser. He's out of NY. I met him last year and brought home this shampoo. The one for blondes was great. But color shampoos like these generally work well for blondes since our hair is so porous and ready to soak up whatever we put on it. I'm a professional stylist. 36.00 is too much for a 10 oz bottle.

I tried a shampoo that was supposed to leave a tint of red in my hair. Of course it was from a hairdresser so it was just as overpriced! I used a ton of it at a time and still found no red (although it was gross in the shower as it rinsed out!). I find they usually don't work as advertised. Thanks for the warning on this one!
